This print is a portrait of ANDi (the name is the
initials for 'inserted DNA' backwards), a baby rhesus monkey born in
January 2001 and the world's first genetically modified monkey. I
took one look at her photo and her sad, sweet eyes moved me so that I
had to make this print of her. Her uncertain future and that of her
relatives rests so precariously in human hands. The key block of the
print was done hanga-style and then I hand-tinted it with diluted
Akuakolor, so there are slight variations from print to print. The
paper I used was Hiromi Paper's 'hanga-shi'.
