Sharri...

I think this is a great idea. Maybe, just to make sure there is no loss to Baren, we charge the full cost which is reimbursed if the brushes come home again?

FYI For all those that are interested in standard size framing, they actually have frames at the dollar store in many sizes. The mats can be resized or removed, and then framing is really inexpensive. I don't know who has dollar stores but they are full of items you could use for printmaking even if you don't use the frames.

Re brushes - if you need smaller ones - the Chinese (round
hog's hair) stencil brushes (found in art supply stores)
are pretty good too...........

Subject: Ukiyoe Heroes : Shipping!
Posted by: Dave Bull

We hit a major milestone on the Ukiyoe Heroes project last night, with the first 'production' batch of prints coming off my bench! After nearly three months of planning and preparation, this plane has taken off!

Our most recent update video lets you have a peek!

Subject: Second linocut in progress, too...
Posted by: Sherrie York

When we last left our hero, she had just given herself a major dope-slap for having started a demonstration linocut on the "wrong" registration jig. (The non- transportable jig as opposed to the transportable one.) A second print was in order, especially since the clock is ticking and the demonstration piece needs to be to the almost-finished point by this coming Friday. (Tools need to be packaged and shipped ahead to the venue.)

So The Gull Piece has exited stage left and has been temporarily supplanted by (drumroll, please)...
The Duck Piece.

Geez, I can't seem to get away from ducks, can I?

The first 4 colors went down in quick succession:

1) A barely-visible-to-the-camera gray and a stenciled yellow dot.

2) A darker gray, and savvy (North American) birders ought
to be able to identify the species already. No, really!

Subject: Getting out of your comfort zone keeps you young
Posted by: Elizabeth Busey

Women should all learn how to use power tools.
Getting out of my comfort zone keeps me young. This week I gained a new appreciation for people who fabricate things out of metal. My husband and I have been working on the parts for my expanded etching press.  We purchased new steel rods, about 1-1/2in in diameter, and I learned how to use a lathe to reduce the diameter to about 1-1/4in. Using the lathe is pretty meditative, as you slowly turn a small wheel to guide the point of the lathe along the rod. You know you are doing the best job when the small metal curlicues it removes are very long. But boy they are hot when they hit your arm.

We had already cut the recycled pipes (for the press rollers) down to 36 inches so our next step was to cut out circles that will hold our newly lathed rods in the center of the rollers.

Two small circles await their rollers.
In a previous post, I showed a picture of the man at the salvage yard using a torch to cut a 1/2 in . . .
