How to get a woodblock to run through a printer. Could we just enlarge
the paper slot? Oh that would not work because a woodblock is not
paper. Maybe an additional slot could be created for the block to run
simultaneously with the paper, thus a print from the block would
emerge. Hey technology keeps moving forward any one up for this
interesting invention?

I am in Baja and leave for Vegas in a few hours. I have the design for
my next exchange block ready to carve.

Oh Harry, congrats! Your whimsical ways are getting recognized.

RAY,My old buddy

often wondered where you were and what you were up to. All good I hope.
The Baren ain't what she used to be, but still a good place to be.
Missed you a lot and hope you will not disappear again!'
After five seems to have disappeared too.
The fun we used to have, huh, Graham?????

Love and stuff

Jeanne, still painting, drawing and printing and getting into trouble.

This might be a case of "what goes around, comes around".
I suspect we have all grown a little bit, but shrunk in physical size.... except our waists.

I find it interesting that you, Ray, are opening a gallery again. Hey, your some tough guy.
The situation here, British Columbia, (Vancouver/Victoria) is beyond slow. The interest in our kind of art... "original" is very very slow. Reproduction images (giclee) are doing OK in a small way.
I am thinking what you are doing is a studio/art gallery, which is a good way to go. Hope it is on the main street and there is good drop by traffic.

take care
Graham

Congrats on the well deserved honor, Harry - the jurors knew what they were doing!

Hi Ray, nice to hear you're back & still making art.

Cheers ~

Good to hear from the New Old Members who I was in touch with long ago
I remember meeting Marilynn and Jeanne for the first time at Thrifty Car
Rental at the Kansas City Airport. We were making our way to the first Baren
Summit at the studio of Mike Lyon. A memorable time we had!. Dave Bull
was there. He taught me how to carve a thin black line ( I should have
taken notes).
In my motel room I didn't dare carve, but worked on the design that was to
become "Lefties Can Carve" and the start of a small exchange of lefty
carvers.

I've been using Ink Jet Transfer Paper:
http://www.imcclains.com/catalog/blocks/transferpaper.html

I run the paper through the printer and then place it upon my block,
using a baren to rub off the ink (being careful not to move the paper
as the ink is very wet). The paper is even reusable so you really only
need a couple sheets, at most.

This is really nice as I can create images on my computer, editing
them with Photoshop (or similar), and then print out the result. The
ink can even be in color -- making the process of knowing exactly what
wood to remove, when carving, that much simpler.

Sometimes the ink will bleed slightly (~1-2mm) through the wood
fibers. I haven't tried it yet but I think wetting the block lightly
ahead of time would help to mitigate this situation.

I have had a period of not working in any form and am now getting in to some preliminary work which may not result in prints, more likelypainting....I feel as though I cannot use my blog anymore because it is not printing as such....so should my blog be removed from the list in this case? I may do some prints just not feeling like just concentrating on printing and expanding the way I work.............

Georgiana,
I think it will only pick up your blog if there is woodblock related info on it, so if you are talking about painting it will not grab it. This is my understanding of how it works.
Julio.....the blog master can tell us....if he is reading emails!

Subject: Arts of Japan series : print #3 - printing begins
Posted by: Dave Bull

Here we go again ... printing in finally under way on the third print in the Arts of Japan series. The first impression is nothing to write home about - but it of course provides an important base on which the subsequent work will build:

I don't think this print will have a whole lot of impressions. I'm thinking that four or five should suffice to get the 'base' ready, and the brushwork should maybe take another four or five. I'll then do the outlines and embossing, and it'll be ready. So perhaps ten will do it, although we'll see what comes up along the way.

(I'm hoping that I can get this batch done within the week - not only because the weather is very hot here now, with a concomitant risk of mold, but because there is now just one week left to go before Jed and I open up our Kickstarter project. That'll be happening as the clock turns to the 1st of August, New York time. I'm not sure why Jed chose that particular moment to get going; perhaps no other reason than that it might be a convenient time for him, I'm not sure ...)

Subject: Webcast 'Heads up' ...
Posted by: Dave Bull

Just a quick little note tonight - something to circle on your calendar ...

Jed Henry and I will be doing another webcast in a few days - the last one before our Kickstarter project opens up. It's scheduled for this coming Monday (the 30th) at 9:00am Tokyo time (that's Sunday evening (the 29th) for North America).

For our previous Webcast, I was working on the carving of the Rickshaw Cart print. This time I'll be at my printing bench instead ... (Three guesses as to what I'll be working on!) I'll of course be joined (via Skype) by Jed, for a wrapup of our progress on the project so far, and to answer questions. Feel free to post questions for us in the comments here (or over on his Facebook page); we'll collect them and feature as many as we can during the Webcast.

We hope to 'see' you there!

(If you missed our previous Webcast, you can find the recorded version on the Ukiyoe Heroes page of the Mokuhankan website - where there are also many other videos and images for perusal ...)

Yesterday we visited the De Heishee refugee camp in Bethlehem, an entire day has passed and I'm still trying to process the experience. This refugee camp is managed by the UN on Jordanian land. The refugees left their homes and their land and their belongings for what was supposed to be two weeks only, 60 yeas later they are still waiting and hoping to return. For some of them the offense is

We arrived to Tel Aviv two days ago, surprisingly we didn't have any problems entering the country. Then rode the bus through the countryside, through Jerusalem and finally through checkpoint 300 into Bethlehem. We are staying at the ICB (international Center of Betlehem) or Diyar www.Diyar.ps The place is like a little oasis in the center of Bethlehem built by the Finnish government.

Subject: Example of proposed type of postings
Posted by: Georgina

Hi all, I sent an email out asking if my blog should be removed from your list. I am currently starting up work again, after some months of inactivity only on the artistic front!!!!Very busy elsewhere let me tell you. Anyhow I am playing with text in work and other things. I am not the author of this text, it is the work of my daughter. I asked her to whip up a few lines for me. This painting is derived from a print and may turn back into a print, infact, more than likely it will. So my point is, do you want to see this sort of stuff or give my blog the axe?
