Hello fellow Cutters! I am part of the project that Marie has so brazenly organized and implemented - Cities of the World.. All of us received our blocks and I didn't realize the scale of the blocks were going to be so small. Since the block is so small, I was wondering how I can carve it without the block slipping on the floor or having my fingers jabbed with tools. Any suggestions? Thanks for your responses.Jerelee of Maryland
Get some shelf liner, the rubber stuff, it holds the block really well while you
carve, I like it a lot better than a bench hook. If you are carving so hard that
the block still moves, you need to make shallower cuts and do them twice...
saves your fingers and your block from mistakes!
My best

Hi Jerelee, McClains has a small block holder that makes cutting much easier also using the non slip rubber mat helps. I am also part of the Cities of the World project. Thank you Maria! Bea Gold
I just got an email from someone who wondered why some of the text on the new
site where we will be selling the relief prints is in LATIN
That is a place holder folks, waiting for text to be inserted. So if you feel
wordy, compose something and send it to me to take the place of the "latin"
We need input so here is your chance, Everyone can help with this
My best to all
Barbara
Hi Jerelee,
Several solutions to your tiny problem:
-rug hug (stuff for keeping rugs in place)
-clamp block to your bench with a quick release clamp (they make tiny ones)
-screw block temporarily to a larger board through the back of the block
-glue block temporarily to a larger board or a working bench with standard white glue, wheat paste, or something that can be easily scraped off without damaging the block
Maria (with an A please ;-)

Has anyone successfully printed moku-hanga on black paper?
Just wondering, have a great image for the Japan Relief project and it must
be on black paper to be successful (well, as I have it envisioned anyway). I
would love to honor the Japan ways and make this in the tradition of
Japanese printmaking but you can't always get what you waaaaant.sorry, bit
of Stones there.
Any hints?
Maria

Maria,
Black is hard as it absorbs the color...try mixing some white pigment in the colors and see if that works...A longshot
