I have some questions concerning Exchange 44. Are we limited to 3 colors or
could we use more if we choose? If it is limited to three colors does the
final block/key block, if black count as one of the colors? I am new to this
so if my question has already been answered just poin me in the right
direction.
Thanks, Robert
Has anyone been able to load and view David's e-book on an iPod?

I tried something a little different with my 44 print. I do not have any official answer for how many layers, usually for me, the more the merrier -- sometimes-- I print with oil based ink and it takes longer for each layer to dry -- so that might be your main concern if you work with oil. Usually, I begin by deciding where the whites will be and carve them first (or the color of the paper if not white), then print the first, and lightest color. This time I printed the entire block with a color and then carved away the first layer. The next layer of ink is a more intense version of the first and layered on a little differently. I am ready for the third and final (maybe) color. Dive right in! The water is fine! Reductive printing can be a lot of fun. The colors can be kept in cooperative ranges(Yellow ochre, raw sienna and black for instance) and the opacity can solve many layering problems (again, oily ink). My work, a lot which is reductive, can be seen on my poorly neglected site (overhall happening soon), at reneeaugrin.com.
I am looking forward to this exchange and all the creative answers to the challenge of reductive printing.

Renee, I love your woodcuts. I'm looking forward to seeing what your reduction print will be. 8-]

On an _iPod_? With the tiny tiny little screen?
I'm not so sure that such a thing would be practical, even if
possible. Anyway, the book is a .pdf file, so any kind of machine that
can open pdfs can basically read it, although in order to view the
audio/video part of the book, you have to be running Adobe Reader 9.0
If though, you are referring to Apple's upcoming iPad (the tablet),
then I most definitely have plans for this. In the form that Apple has
currently announced it, the iPad will only handle the _text/photo_
portions of my book, not the audio/video, as the iPad won't be running
Adobe software it seems.
But as soon as I am able to learn the relevant technical specs of the
device, I will do what I can to prepare an 'upgrade' version that will
play on it. (Upgrade downloads of the book are always free to previous
purchasers).
More than that, I can't say at present ... but I am very excited about
where this is all going!

I agree that this is going to kill the kendal and the google version of the electronic books.
I might even be forced to get one. I was always a pc gal but got a mac about 5 years ago to
work in our non profit as it was on a mac....I love it and will never go back.... so what they
say is true. I get very frustrated when I have to help my hubby on his pc. If I could just teach
this machine to carve life would be perfect.
my best
Barbara

Flipped the seahorse to the right and closed his mouth. This is looking more like what I want. I've got a 6"x8" block of shina for it. Think I'll stain it with wood stain (if I have any handy).
The stain is a little warmer, but the grain shows nicely in this scan. Rainy day so it'll take a while to dry. Then I'll transfer the image via chalk.
