I received a most interesting link yesterday from Julio ...

http://www.ligustro.it/

From Italy, Giovanni Berio ... now 85 years old. Seems to have been
a painter who stumbled onto making prints in his 60's ... and look at
what he's come up with!

(Don't know how he could have been hiding so well all this time.)

Some of the work (the folk songs) seems to be mechanically printed,
but the rest ('months' 'fish' 'surimono') seem like real woodblock
prints.

There is a section explaining his novel technique, which involves
mounting the paper onto a carrier which fits into registration marks
on a platform. The blocks seem to be small fragments, also mounted
onto the platform, with everything being lined up by using a mylar
sheet for guidance.

He's rubbing with 'barens', pieces of cork, etc. etc.

I sure wish there were larger images; I'd love to be able to see how
refined the work is ...

I hope some of our Italian members can read through, and give us a bit
more information on this guy!

Excuse the 'extra' post here, but I found some larger images of Berio,
along with a longer story on him. (This is a .pdf link ... right-click
and download it ...)

Not much to say, but I'm very happy that I got some time to print this morning. Added some red oxide and some green. Lots more still to come, these are just the base colors.
