Saludos, Guadalupe
I vote for an exchange with an typography - text - letters and numbers
in any form thems.
Reduction is ok too, 2 or 3 colors.
Sounds like fun.... :)

I apologize for posting twice today, but just had to jump in. First, again, I am so sorry for the heart attacks and strokes I caused with the announcement of an incorrect date for Ex. 43 deadline! I must proofread before hitting send!...proofread before hitting send!...proofread before hitting send...
Second, Juergen asked the question:
reading the theme and technique suggestions with interest, let me ask (i
am not that familiar with the English language): does typography include
numeral figures (or numbers? which is the correct word)?
I already have an idea in mind... so therefore both will be ok for me.

Yes, Typography includes all characters, numerals, and symbols/punctuation in any typeface. (Combining typefaces would certainly be enouraged as well.)
The definition of typography is: the art of printing with type; 2. the setting and arranging of types and printing from them; 3. the arrangement, style, or general appearance of matter printed from type.
Editorial comment: ;) My favorite part of that definition is the latter referring to the arrangement, style and so on. Paul Rand is quoted as saying, "Good typography is a fusion of information and inspiration, of the conscious and unconscious, of yesterday and today, of fact and fantasy, work and play, craft and art." Sorry to get long-winded. This is just something I share with my graphic design students here at the high school as we explore typography as a design and compositional element.
We're getting a great deal of response to this theme idea. Also a lot of positive feedback on the idea of reduction print as a technique to try. Keep the ideas and comments coming!

I won't be able to participate in the exchange, but my two bits worth
is:
I don't think Illuminated letters necessarily have to have gold. They
do have to have lots of color, though!

Thinking more about this I wonder:
If people have issues with a technique challenge coming side by side with a
themed exchange, wouldn't it make more sense to put the challenge off until
the next regularly scheduled "theme-less" exchange, which (I think) would be
#44?
Peace,
Eileen
