Suzi,
I have gathered a lot of info and still trying to figure out how to compile it...I think by paper, then by ink. So when I get it done, I will post it. Lots of paper out there and lots I have not tried.
Any paper will give you flat prints if you dry it in blotters and then move it to dry blotters after 30+ minutes. There are many papers that work well, I think you have to just try them and see what works. Matt Brown uses Rives heavy weight and it seems to work for him but most people prefer the oriental papers from Graphic, the mall or McClains.

I am still tired from the journey back from the WEN Workshop inChicago but I feel so refreshed in other ways. I didn't actually engrave much but I spent a lot of time talking and looking at art and thinking.
I have returned ready to embark on a new direction as far as my personal work is concerned. I am going to make more time for this - at least a full week every month unless commissions are really pressing.
Contributers to BAREN #42 will probably be the first to see the new stuff. I decided that I am possibly an artist after all, rather than just a jobbing engraver.
Andy
Eileen, please could you contact me offlist and let me know if you can log in
now? If not I can probably activate your login without using the email.
Same goes for anyone else who has login problems (we've had one or two so far)
-- please let me or Julio know, and we can probably fix it in a few moments.
All the best,
Dave H

How exciting for those who were at the WEN workshop. I really enjoyed the photographs and would have loved to have seen more names on 'bodies' as I feel I 'know' so many Bareners.
Andy... I have always thought of you as an artist. The term 'jobbing engraver' is definitely not one I'd apply to you and your work. I feel fortunate to be in #42 and look forward to this new direction.
I wanted to comment on the new Baren social. What a great idea. I find my computer time greatly curtailed lately (a good thing) but look forward to a more visual sharing.
I also wanted to ask if there is any update on a Baren Summit.

I think Facebook is much more social than BarenSocial.

This is very exciting, to hear of a new direction for yourself in art. Thanks for letting us know and I look forward to your new efforts!
Congratulations to you and all the folks in Chicago for having such a bang-up meeting at WEN. I was sorry to miss it - and the chance to ask you one or two discreet questions about our hero, Eric Gill :o)
There's been no question for me that you are an artist, Andy. Your early woodcut of the two boys did it for me!
Glad the WEN gathering was good for you.

I am looking for recommendations on mounting a print for display. I would
like to display some prints on a wall and am looking for a method that would
allow me to change the prints fairly easily.
Thanks, Robert

Funny you mentioned that as Andy did indeed bring up the subject of Mr.
Gill during his presentation. Andy has a great sense of humor and an
impecable
way to tell a story.....not only was a treat to meet him in person..but I
learned a lot about being an artist from his speech........his passion for
drawing (he draws everday and every chance and every place he can !), his
meeting up with some very important and defining people in the english
printmaking circles....and above all the way he described how he 'sees'
engravings every where he goes....the releasing of the dark into 'light'
as engravers call their craft.
Re. Mr. Gill the comment was in response to someone bringing up his name
and Andy made a funny remark about Mr. Gill's risque background and what
the workshop would be like with Gill in attendance....then there was a
pause and the phone ran..... and Andy jokingly let out: If that's Mr.
Gill, tell him he is probably not welcome here.... (or something to that
affect).....you had to be there but it was great timing and funny as hell
!
Andy has not mentioned it yet but he had a great idea about a
collaboration exchange between Baren & WEN folks....Sharen, Andy and I are
in...anybody else here interested ?
Andy you want to roll with this ? Details ???
