At this exhibit in Oct 2001 at Hirschl Adler Gallery, NY, _A CENTURY OF
AMERICAN COLOR WOODCUTS_
(http://www.hirschlandadler.com/Current/ex01/Sep01/amwoodcuts/amwoodcuts_index.html) , , I was unexpectedly able to ask
questions of Joseph Goddu, their Curator and Director of their Dept. of Prints.
I think it will give us at Baren something to think about, whether we agree
or disagree.

Lyons' question -- I notice that there is no notation of the number of blocks used,
whether hand-printed, type of paper or ink used. Is that information unimportant?

Joseph Goddu Answer. That is not important information. It is a specious academic and insignificant
question in the face of the large concern: Is it a work of art? Hand-painted woodcuts have a long tradition.
It has nothing to do with the value of the woodcut whether it has one color or several, is intricate,
hand-printed or carved by the artist. An important question is: Am I moved by what is in front of me_

I am interested in printing white ink on black paper for some lino blocks.
Can anyone give recommendations for papers and ink?
Thanks, Robert

Would anyone give me some good recommendations on papers to use if I want to
hand color some relief prints using some different media?
Thanks, Robert
