Sharri, I love your post. This is what I was taught regarding editioning of
print but my teachers never mentioned the true value of state prints. ; )
I've been quiet on the forum and on my blog but have been working away. I've
gotten a start on my exchange piece. I am planning on revisiting (by
revisiting I mean starting from scratch with everything but the idea) a
print I gave up on a year ago. It was my second woodblock print since
college and I think I bit off more than I could chew. Now that I have had a
few more prints under my belt and have gotten familiar with the process I
think I would very much like to take another stab at it.
The ox prints seem to be always held up by one thing or another. First it
was an allusive electrical problem. When the lights finally came on I found
that the studio had been over run by carpenter ants. Several treatments
later and I think they are now gone. Gone enough for me to work out there
anyway. I feel awful that they are so late to leave the corrall but it won't
be long now.
I too will be doing a printmaking project for my son's kindergarten silent
auction. I will give them 3x3 tissue paper and sharpies and ask that they
draw a portrait of themselves dressed as what they want to be when they grow
up. I'll transfer to a block and then have them help me print. It should be
fun. I'm organizing all the class art projects this year but I think Noah's
class will be the only one to do this particular project. Any advice from
you experienced teachers, room parents, etc. would be appreciated.

I am enjoying all the video links. They are fun and instructive as
well. Thanks.

Hi Harry, and thanks for mentioning Kuniyoshi, it looks like it'll be a good
show. Some of his animal, ghost and monster images are quite spectacular.
I booked a ticket to see the show, on the 25th of March, last week.
It happily coincides with an animation presentation I have to make in
London.
Cheers,
Mark.
Related to the last Baren blog posting about Chinese printing I recall a
very nice how-to article by Ray Hudson and Bea Gold from the 2001
Barensuji newsletter:

That was the year we opened the BarenMall !!!! Also don't miss Maria's
article on Japanese paper making worth a repeat read.
Remember, you can also search the Baren archives for more forum info on
'chinese printing', 'shui-yin', etc. or for any other topics of
interest.

I missed you guys!!! I have been off for a while - new e-mail address and was just getting the digest and suddenly realized I missed the New Years cards - first time since we started and it means I will not have a full set! almost put me in a depression. Anyway seeing Ray and other friends up on the screen brought me back and I'll never leave again!!! I must admit that my woodcuts have taken a back seat for now because I'm involved in a time consuming project of writing one page stories and illustrating them with 9" x !2" paintings on canvas. Thanks for being here. Bea Gold

Subject: Empresses, IF and Different Strokes

We have and edition of Empresses
this week's block print fits right in with this week's Illustration Friday challenge. The theme is "intricate." This tarot card and the symbols within are definitely very intricate.
I like the way my Empresses came out. the colors worked great. As for the black overprint on the slightly larger cards...nah don't care for that but a ruler, a bone folder, a little water and some careful tearing will eliminate that...Next edition is the Emperor.
