Here is a little present from me to all of you for the holidays:
I have
been using Photoshop for an art project, and noted that I was having
difficulty with my mouse. So I contacted a friend of mine, and this is
what they sent me. I am sure you will find it helpful.
Cheers ...... Charles
MOUSE CALIBRATION
You
should actually do this every year. Even more often is recommended by
Kim Kommando (the computer guru) if you spend a lot of time on the
computer.
I was shocked to see how well this works, and how far off mine was!
To re-calibrate your mouse, click and hold on the Y below, then drag the Y toward the g.
If it doesn't work immediately, you might want to clean your mouse, as the calibration is off.
Sing this one to the tune of "Oh come all ye faithful":
Oh come, all ye printmakers ...
Joyful and triumphant!
Oh come ye, oh come ye,
To SS NW 08
Come and behold them,
All our glorious prints!
Oh come and sign up now,
Oh come and sign up now,
Oh come and sign up now,
Before it's too late ....
This is the LAST DAY for sign ups ... don't miss out!
Please note: This is NOT an official Baren exchange.
Cheers ....... Charles

This is a you tube radio production done by my brother in Texas. I want to share it but it is definitely not woodblock related so do not feel obligated to listen. I am anxiously awaiting our Dave's annual Christmas poem as I think it is spectacular and of course very woodblock related.
Happy holidays to all, we have 10 inches of snow with 1/8 inch of ice on top and freezing rain falling as I write this. I am praying for the power to stay on, that will be my best Christmas present! We are totally immobilized in the Northwest as we are not prepared for this like cities that get it every year. We may have scrambled eggs for Christmas dinner if we don't get a thaw next week so we can shop.
My best to all,
Barbara

Seems incredible that it's been more than ten years since we first
heard it!

Bareners,
If anyone happens to be in the Raleigh, NC area...
Cannoball Press has a great woodcut show at Lump Gallery. The show includes several large scale woodcuts on canvas. Plus all the walls are covered from floor to ceiling with prints. Here is a link to the gallery.

Also, that was a great tip on show at the Hammer Museum. Interesting essay on their site.
Thanks,

Hi Murilo.
I found the money! I hadn't expected it to be enclosed within the wrapping
layers....
Thanks so much.

it an unofficial Baren exchange. But a number of Bareners do

I note that everyone participating is a Barren member. What are the origins and history of this exchange please?

I saw this woodblock exhibit in November at the Hammer Museum "Gouge--The
Modern Woodcut-1870 Until Now" Excellent..I wondered why no mention was made
of any other tool used. Catalogues with good explanations and pictures
were available when I was there. The whole text is of the catalogue is included
on the site above, that Jamie Jamison sent:

I wore my eyeballs out figuring out and staring at Munch's, The Kiss. He
made several variants of this same image . We had a discussion about this print
a while ago.

Hello Josephine,
It is simply not true that only Bareners participate, as you well know. And you are also fully aware of the history of this exchange. If you have any real questions, just email me off list.

I'm including William Bradford's words about the ocean in this print, so the next thing I did was carve the lettering. The type is based on The Fell Types, which take their name from John Fell, a Bishop of Oxford in the seventeenth-century who wanted to be a publisher. I like the crudeness of the lettering, as much of the printed matter from Colonial America was also crude.
Next I began to
