Andrew - maybe you're using too much rice paste?? or not blending (brushing)
the colour well enough to get a good even layer on the blockt...? also your
paper could have ended up unevenly dampened

Hi folks -- for those of you who were in the Firemen Print exchange:

I was looking again through my copy of this wonderful portfolio, and I
realized that somehow I have two copies of Georga's lovely print.

If one of you who participated in this exchange is missing this print, write
to me offlist. Otherwise I will return the extra copy to georga.

Thanks to all who participated in and helped organized this exchange, it is
a wonderful portfolio.

Andrew,
there are a lot of variables here so it is hard to tell what is causing it long distance.
If you are printing on the smooth side of the paper, the sized side, it should print smoothly.
Is there a chance that the paper is unsized? Lots of paper is. To tell if it is unsized, dampen a corner of dry paper with one drop of water. If it bleeds into the paper it is unsized. Sized paper will bead up and then absorb but in the spot of the drop and not bleed out to a really big uneven spot.
The next thing could be the color and paste. You should use lots of water in the pigment and not lots of paste. There really should be no more paste in the transparent color than there would be in any color. My guess is there is way too much paste to watery pigment.
Ok, try these things and let us know.
My best
Barbara

Viza Arlington, your work has arrived!

Joseph Taylor, your box was smaller than the prints sent. Rolling the end of
them to "fit' has unfortunately meant a crease in each print. A pity as
they're wonderful. I will do the same for the return box if you wish but can roll
them, then secure the roll before placing them in the box. This may not be best
for all types of paper. I cannot guarantee that the method is ideal.

However, your box was also crushed. I can reuse it if you insist, but
recommend that you send additional postage and the cost of the next size up box in
order to receive the prints. So far the postage paid is $9.80 for a flat rate
US Postal Service box of 14" length.

Just let me know what you'd like, please.

Best Wishes.

Hello Friends.

Recently I rec'd a request regarding whether prints have arrived. Maybe it's
time to list all those whose packages are here.... though not in order of
arrival. I believe that I've posted to the entire listserve each time a package is
delivered.

Viza Arlington
Andrew Stone
Kathe Welch
Barbara Patera
Dale Phelps
Daryl Depry
Heather Piazza
George Jarvis
Joseph Taylor
Maria Arango
Claudia Coonen
Monica Bright
Michael Gaffney

That's 13! Only 17 more to go. There are a coupla artists with real health
concerns.

Opening, collating, etc. will start when the whole exchange has arrived.

Cheers.

Andrew,
I'm sure you will receive good and expert advise from many more
qualified than I. But, it looks like not enough rice paste/methyl
cellulose, to me. I find it very difficult to use water color and
have it come out right, if that helps any. I'm hoping for better
results with the dispersions from Guerra, but I haven't had a chance
to try them, yet.

Cheers ~
