I withdraw my mirror image idea and put my vote for "tree self portrait".

And holy cow, as a newbee here, I had no idea there were "oily" printers and "water" printers. I just thought we were all Printmakers. I have no problem with there being an "Oily" exchange next time or any time. I just wouldn't sign up for it since I don't have ink or $$ at my disposal at the moment. But I certainly wouldn't be all PO'd about the choice to have that as the chosen technique for an exchange.

Let's have a little grace toward each other and be thankful that we have a forum and exchanges! [hopping off my soapbox]

I don't much like that idea. It won't bother me if an all water-based or all oil-based exchange is chosen. One of the charms of the print exchanges for me is the variety of techniques used to produce the print, with water or oil based printing. And maybe printmakers produce best work with techniques they are familiar with, like and enjoy doing?

Linda, welcome and your vote is noted!

Sorry about that folks, I guess "I started it"; it isn't always this
entertaining...

For the record, this was my decision only, not the "underground minority
conspiring to destroy everything oily", and also for the record, I print oil
almost exclusively.
Or better said, I print with a brayer and a press, lately, with cork puzzle
color plates and a newly built bottle jack press. And I am also (GASP!!!!!)
mixing water based color inks with oil based key blocks...(she faints with a
loud thud at the mere thought...).

I like Mike's less "presidential" (chuckle) idea of a rotating technique.

Hi to Everyone- Oily or Not!,

Can I vote a second time for the #39? Or maybe second or endorse the new choice?--I love the tree as self portrait!!

I agree. I like all the creative variety. 8-] A (technique)-only exchange is more likely to make me skip it. Sometimes (ok, most times, since I'm disorganized) I just don't have the time to learn something brand new.

Good grief, what a flap over learning something new. I, too, am
basically an oily style woodblock printmaker, though my really serious
work has been more in intaglio. To be accused of being some kind of
elitist moku hanga core group is almost too ludicrous to laugh at, but
I can't help myself. What is the problem with being stretched to
learn something new? Definitely, one of the exchanges should be the
white line Provincetown printmakers style. I know little about it,
but am willing to learn. If I can do this at 70, the rest of you
squirts can learn, too! ;-)

I'll weigh in on this. The good thing about a moku hanga exchange is
that if you dare join and are not a moka hanga person, it teaches you
if you are going to like doing it or not. I tried one, and really
didn't like it because I am not and never have been much of a
watercolor person, and this proved it to me. Therefore, I've never
been compelled to do it again. But, others have tried and found they
like it very much. It's a way to face your fear. Now I have a little
suggestion that could be interesting, but maybe too complicated. If
we were to go the way of an all oily exchange, too, then why not make
it at the same time and the same theme. Two coordinators. Then
everyone gets to do what they like and everyone gets a crack at the
same size and shape and theme. This would make two gallery shows (if
anyone who is in either of these exchanges wants to do a show) that
have a sort of continuity. And for the oily one, I'd even suggest not
doing color, but all black and white. Wouldn't these make stunning
shows?

I like trees, but not necessarily as portraits.

I joined the barenforum in 2004 in order to learn about making
Japanese prints. Given the look of the site dotted with little baren
logos and photos of the baren with a brush I figured I was in the
right place. Hard-working people had gone to the trouble of setting
up a massive architecture with a huge set of resources seemingly to
help people learn Japanese technique. Fantastic!

From my perspective I would be keen to sign up to an all-water
exchange. Equally I would be extra-keen to sign up to an all-baren
exchange.

I like the theme of architecture and I like the theme of an all-blue
exchange.
