Maria:

it just dawned on me that I may not have sent the extra print for Wanda's
family...since I'm traveling I can't just check the stack of extras to see
where the numbering begins...if I did forget the extra, please don't send
me one of mine with the exchange returns, put into the stack for Wanda's
family instead. I can simply slip one from the stack of extras into the
exchange bundle when it arrives. If that is a problem let me know and I'll
ship one off to you from the extras as soon as I return home on the 10th.

Now in reference to the lino etching...someone mentioned washing the
caustic soda down the tap...uhm I don't think my copper plumbing could take
it!

Well back to playing with the grandchildren while looking forward to seeing
that collection of prints.

i had a problem like that. but i found that my problem was when applying the ink to the block. i would roll the ink on and instead of picking the brayer up in between each pass, i would leave it on the block, rotate a little, then roll some more. the rotating action rubbed ink into the fine shallow cuts.
i also have to clean the block a little every 3 or 4 prints.
also, don't push down when you bray. apply with gentle pressure. since your brayer is soft, it will push down into the small lines and fill them with ink kind of the same way you can emboss if you have to much pressure on the press with the pusher blankets.

hope all that makes sense. good luck.

David, I suggest you use a firmer roller if you have
one and between each print use a toothbrush to give a
light cleaning scrub to your block. You should have a
lint free cloth or Bounty to wipe any excess ink off
but usually the surplus is just/can be moved to areas
that don't print.

This is what I do now and it saves a lot of 'spoilage'
of paper and time.

Cheers

When I wrote "You should have a
lint free cloth or Bounty to wipe any excess ink off"
I meant from the tooth brush, not the block.

Greetings to you all,

Maria, the monumental puzzle print 'Cairn' arrived over two weeks ago, but
as my computer and internet services were in total melt down I used snail
mail to thank you for your stirling work. May I now also thank all the
unique contributors. This cooperative print is a great tribute to Baren
and its International, on - line status.

I will be searching for venues and sponsors in the Autumn to exhibit it at
its best in Eastern England.

Regards,

Harry

Maria, From the revised financials it looks like you are making somewhat
less than $0.03/ hr for your time. And I thought that Las Vegas was one of those
high wages/cost of living cities! Thanks again for all your good work. Dale

Yes, but, as everyone knows in Vegas, the "tips" are great!

I'm still working on Ghirardelli chocolates from Lynita and have a box of
cookies awaiting from Gayle, tons of little cards, poems, tiny prints,
post-cards and cool stamps from far-away places, and lots and lots of
e-LOVE!!!

Livin' the life, Maria

do an amazing job of managing our submissions. And they say herding

David,
the key is thinner ink...are you brushing it on? If so, be very careful not to have things too wet, have the block just slightly shiny, not wet at all so if you look across it you can see the shine....
If you are rolling ink on, use stiffer ink and a thin layer. Add some magnesium carbonate to the ink, this works even with waterbased inks
Good luck

Dean (mainly), do you know or have any thoughts on whether your water-based
relief inks and Daniel Smith's water-based relief inks will mix?

Inquiring minds want to know!

Thanks,

Maria
