Akua Kolor is very liquidy and has intense
pigment. It brushes nicely. To roll it with a brayer, you mixed it with a
bit of tack thickener and it rolls very well.

I find that while the first attempt to roll with a brayer is difficult
because it is so slippery, after about 20 minutes of air time it becomes easier
and works great. I used oil based ink in school, Daniel Smith water based ink
when first out (works much like the oil) and now use mostly Aku Kolor. I really
like what I can do with it including multi layered reduction prints. I do
often use the Daniel Smith black for my key block print at the end because it
is such a nice deep black.

Thank you Kris. Yes the art is mine, it is monotype and the rest are acrylic on canvas. This year I have been doing linotype also.

Thank you Amanda, Welcome. The Akua Color and the Akua Intaglio sound very interesting, thank you. Where can I buy them? I go once a year to San Antonio and buy art supplies at Jerry´s arterama but I have not seen them there. I saw your etchings, they are very good.

Thank you Marilynn. Where can I buy the stones for sharpening? I can buy from Internet store pages.
Best Regards, Guadalupe

I ordered my Akua Kolor and Akua Intaglio inks from dickblick.com. McClains
also sells them online. Thanks very much!

Amanda,
Wow! Thanks for all the info. You're very helpful. Is there a brand
of tack thickener that you prefer? Or does Akua make their own? I'm
somewhat naive in this area. All I've ever worked with is Graphic
chemical WB inks and, dare I admit it, Speedball. Only for
illustration though. For drying reasons.
And the pampers sensitive baby wipes... great tip. How does one
stumble across that!
Can't wait to get my Akua!

Thanks again!

Kris

Happy Easter! I think sharpening tools is half the fun when you have
waterstones. It's very calming to spend an hour bringing an edge to tools...
Enjoy!

hi folks, just wanted to put my 2 cents in re Akua Kolor, papers, etc.

I have used Akua Kolors for printing in the Japanese method, brushing the color onto the block
as opposed to putting it on w/a brayer, and using NO retarder.

I print this way using a baren, not a press.

I have used moistened thin Japanese paper, and
have printed blocks in multiple colors. If you are working this way and brushing the color
very thinly onto the block, I didn't have any trouble w/the drying because it is similar
to dyeing the paper, the color is absorbed into the dampened paper.

For large flat areas, I print the area several times, still brushing thinly onto the block.

take care and happy printing!
Sarah
