For all Bareners who receive their posts individually, this is timely
(that is, if you have time today to get online), but for those
receiving the digest, well I should have sent out a greeting yesterday
since this will probably appear a day late unless we get so many
messages today, the digest arrives a day early. Nontheless, happy
wishes to every Barener, and I hope all our muses will ride on our
shoulders next year and whisper wonderful ideas to us that will show
up in our work. Back to the kitchen now where I'm preparing wonders
of the season (especially a beet borsht with mushroom stuffed
dumplings afloat in it...and that's just the first course!)

Everyone is invited to celebrate the new year at my show at Square One
Gallery on January 10. The prints in the show are large format digital
pigment prints, the images are closely related to my woodblock prints. (I do
both!) The show is called "Voyage to Italy" and is at Square One Gallery, 1
Union Square West, Room 501, in New York City. It is at the architectural
office of Thomas Fenniman. Dates: December 13, 2007 to March 15, 2008;
Artist's Reception: Thursday, January 10, 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
You are also invited to visit me virtually, www.aprilvollmer.com There are
updated lists of classes and events, and photographs of my trip to Estonia
for the IMPACT 5 printmaking conference. I will upload photos of the Square
One show as soon as I can!
I gave two talks on Japanese woodblock printing in Boston this month, and
met wonderful printmakers there. I taught a class at the Center for
Contemporary Printmaking in Norwalk, CT, and was lucky enough to be there
during the inauguration celebration of the "Helen Frankenthaller Cottage". I
will post photos of that, soon, too! For any of you living near Norwalk, CT,
CCP is a wonderful place for making prints. They are just starting an artist
residency program in the Cottage.
www.contemprints.org/Residency_Overview.cfm will take you do a description.
Also, don't forget about the Foot Prints show, deadline is February 1, that
information is also on the CCP website.
And for 2008,
I am planning to go to the Richmond meeting of the Southern Graphics Council
in March. May 3 and 4 I will give woodblock demonstrations at the Brooklyn
Botanic Garden's Cherry Blossom Festival, before flying to Belgrade where I
will have a show of woodcuts at the Center for Graphic Art & Visual
Research!
Best wishes to all for the New Year!!
April
