I also like this idea... More people are in that area to help organize it. Also it's a cheaper flight from overseas than someplace like New Mexico.

I would love to be able to meet all of you at a baren summit. I have learned so much here, I feel like I know you all already. Asilomar is a beautiful place and would certainly be an inspirational place to work for a few days. I have taken many long weekends in the Monterey area. There is nothing like stepping out of your hotel room on a crisp morning and seeing a deer look at you, as if to acknowledge your presence and then casually go back to grazing, at the same time you breathe in the salty air, knowing that you could walk to the beach in just a few minutes.

Heather Piazza and I would be willing to help organize a gathering in the Oakland area to help lobby for having the summit around here [Asilomar is two short hours away]. Let us know who is interested or what we can do to make it happen. I would love to meet - in person - some of the best teachers I have had.

This would be better suited for the list for off topic posts. I believe it
is called after hours? The main list is reserved for posts exclusively
relating to printmaking. Some might consider this to be chain mail or even
spam.

Hi again,

I thought I would go back now and totally rationalize my post. LOL
This spinning lady is about the whole right-brain / left-brain and when I saw it I got to thinking about how I have such a hard time knowing whether a piece I am working on would look better if the composition were reversed.
Especially a problem for me because of having to reverse the design for woodblock prints. I have the design, then I print it out reversed to transfer to the block (I do the laquer thinner transfer) and I always have to stop at that point and decide if it doesn't look better to me on the reverse printout. I have always wondered if this is because of the brain thing. I go through this indecision everytime I make a print.
Does anyone else go through this or is it just me?

I've never given the orientation any thought
unless there's text involved. Really, what
difference does it make which way it's facing?
That's kind of how I've always viewed it. To the
viewer, it's right exactly the way they see it.
But of course, if you don't like it, it doesn't
matter what anyone else thinks. (we're our own
worst critics)

good luck.

Connie, after doing printmaking for 10 to 12 years - it has become
difficult for me to even tell the difference
between the original image & the reverse image! Sometimes when I
finish carving blocks & start printing, the
printed image looks all wrong. The spinning dancer is just too weird -
is it really our left & right brain comprehending
the spinning image? Or is it set to reverse at different intervals?
Is is really an optical illusion? Or is it a trick?

Here's to reversing (or not) all those wonderful images!

My husband has been obsessed with this spinning image for the last few
weeks. We've had endless discussion until I'm completely fed up. He can
make her (in his mind) go clock-wise or counter clock-wise at will. This
annoys the heck out of me, because she's always spinning clockwise when I
look at her (and I equate this with him having better control of his mind
then I do....which is unfortunately true). But the thing is - this
spinning woman is TWO--DIMENSIONAL! She is NOT spinning. I think I have a
better imagination because I see her as three-dimensional. I can't get her
to go counter-clockwise because she is obviously three-dimensional.
It's silly...all this talk of left brain, right brain. Everyone is a
little this and a little that (except for the crazies - who all bunch up at
either end of the spectrum and run for political offices).
