Worked just fine, Charles! That's the way (the only way) to do it! I
watched them
go through.

hello baren,
I have been so busy this last year that I have hardly
posted and admit to trashing many posts unread....I
just hope if there is anything earthshaking going on
someone sends me a private email.
This week I have been driving from Portland to Salem
to do printmaking with an elementary school...we are
doing block prints with the 5th and 6th grades and
collographs with the 3rd and 4th and fish printing
with k-2. 110 miles round trip, and getting up at 5
AM.
We used safety kut for the carving, since the kids are
so young, but printed with a baren. I took 4 different
kinds, two plasic, one ball bearing and one
traditional. The kids were so very interested in the
traditional, they all wanted to use this special one.
I was sort of surprised it was so popular amoung 11
and 12 year olds, especially when they had not really
seen any before. We talked a lot about how they are
made in Japan, about how they are made by hand instead
of machine and all the kids seemed to think that was
amazing and unusual. What a world, where something
hand made is marveled at.
The prints were outstanding.
So...keep on making stuff by hand...it is certainly a
disappearing genre.
Best to all,
Barbara,... going to bed very early
