Just checked in my Oxford English Doorstop. It gives two formal meanings --
roughly, 'extraordinary' and 'as of fable' -- plus the more colloquial sense
of 'wonderful' that's abbreviated to 'fab'. They don't mention astonishment,
which is a let-down. Perhaps this is one of those "OED vs Webster" moments
that make English fun. :-)

Hi Peter,
FAB is an abreviation of fabulous. And I can certainly agree with that
assessment of the Boar Exchange. They are really imaginative &
wonderful. (Still working on mine!)
