I am also very late with my pig/boar prints and I owe some people dogs and
even some roosters....this is really really bad since I am the one that
coordinates the New Year exchanges....very bad example....but be assured
that you will all get cards from me soon.....these wonderful little pieces
of paper with ink on them that trickle in day by day are just the kind of
uplifting we all need while checking mail. We keep the list of
participants online for the last four years so that others like me have a
chance to do good..it's never too late !!!!

I have uploaded images from the very first two exchanges (dragons &
snakes), not all the prints are up yet and some need resizing but for
those that missed out on those early exchanges take a look at what little
gems you missed.

Also there is an entry now on the Baren blog about my visit with Mike Lyon
(and family) at Art Chicago 2007, photos too.
I added links to the show's Photo Gallery and 'Artropolis' TV....a bunch
of small video clips that describe the vibrant Art scene in Chicago.

And yes...for those bareners that have been asking 'what happened to John
?" (that's John Center from Chicago)....I found him !!!! He's fine..lost
a little weight but it's busy as ever printmaking...I stopped by his house
yesterday and we had a little chat. He stopped participating in our forum
for a while due to spam but now has a new email id with which he is
planning to rejoin Baren. John gave me a few Lincoln's, Franklin's and a
very nice Grant...if you know John's work you know I am not talking about
real money but rather the wonderful engravings he makes based on US
currency.

thanks....Julio

Hello all card participants -
Yes, mine are late too as I've been printing them in batches but
they'll all be sent out before '08 and I do hope the many other
slowpokes (who haven't left comments) out of the huge # of 61 signups
will do the same - it is fun to get cards unexpectedly throughout the year
so don't give up on us, Marilyn! Actually,I still have some of my
monkeys, roosters and dogs that didn't get sent because my lists of those I
mailed out became totally disorganized - if anyone would like to
receive these missing prints please let me know -
with apologies and hopes

Hi, Peggy... and welcome.

I've found Baren to be the biggest influence in my printmkaing. The exchanges have challenged me to be better because my work is going to people whose work I respect. You should consider joining in on an exchange. The learning curve shortens quickly when you have a lot of prints in your hands to study and learn from.

Well, what the heck, I may as well jump into the fray, also. The New
Year's Cards are strictly a voluntary game. There is no time table,
but there is an obligation to send a card someday. I enjoy getting
them whenever they arrive and it is fun to get them all year. The
bonus to getting yours out early is the totally guilt-free feeling when
you receive all those who come in after yours have gone out :-)
Please, let's not turn these delightful little cards into a contentious
tit-for-tat affair.

Cheers ~
Sharri

I sent out my pig/boar cards. If there is anyone on the list who is keeping
track of who he/she got cards from and didn't get one from me, please email
me. jeaneger#jeaneger.com Thanks.

I too am very very late with my Year of the Boar cards, for which I
profusely apologize.

I've really enjoyed the ones that I have received.

I simply couldn't think of an idea that was worth doing and wouldn't
embarrass me to admit to in later years.

I finally have an idea and have started getting the blocks ready.

They will be out before next year, I swear!

Okay guys, when I sent the email regarding the year of the pig and other
chinese new years cards that was the type of a response I was sincerely
hoping for. That one should mail to all on the list. Because if we all
hold out and mail only to those who send us a card than our list dies. I do
understand late, but also I do think there are many out there who are
holding onto cards and mailing to only those who have sent them one. Sadly
that means that our list will slowly evaporate. If we all do this than
eventually no one gets cards. POINT MADE! Yes my cards are late, but they
were done and ready to mail on time, next year I will mail them from Baja.
YOU MAY NEVER GET THEM. But they will have been sent out on time! We sent
post cards to friends from down there once and they did finally get them a
year, yes a year, later! Often though the mail just never arrives at its
destination, so I have the choice of not doing the cards or mailing them
late so I can be sure that you folks do get them. This is a great exchange
and I love doing it and I love the late cards just as much as those that are
on time. I do not mind late, I do not mind a year late, I do not mind
sending a gift. But for those who never mail out any cards, hmmm. This is
called an EXCHANGE, not a gifting. When 2/3rds of the list have not been
sent out and it is April and than I count my dog prints and I got about half
as many as those who were on the list it makes me wonder???? As I said
before this is supposed to be an EXCHANGE not a gifting. If it were 5 or 6
people who would care??? Figure out the work and the postage and other
costs on about 40 gifted cards, comes to a fair amount. Let me see most pay
39 cents for the stamp, than my clear bags were about $6.00, not sure how
much the paper costs were so add in about $10 for that and ink.(which is low
because mine are on a nice hand made paper) Multiple all by 40, not the 60
plus on the list. The total is $65.65, quite a nice gift I would say. The
point though is not even the money, As was said by one person on this list,
FOLLOW THROUGH ON YOUR RESPONSIBILITY. MOST DO NOT MIND LATE, BUT MAIL
THEM!!!!!!! I only came to this situation when I counted how many I needed
to mail, the list is definitely longer this year and I was not sure I had
pulled enough prints, also the return is lower this year percentage wise.
This is not fair to those of us who do eventually follow through and the
point could be made that it is not fair to those who are on time. But we
all do enjoy the relaxed feeling of this exchange, so take your time, just
do it. Mine will be coming out as soon as I get my bags and print out my
labels, but they will come in batches, those who have sent me a card will go
out first as I will spread the cost of mailing over a few weeks.

Oh and for those who are late and getting ready to mail I look forward to
getting your cards. And for those who sent me a dog card along with my pig
card, thanks I love them, late or on time they are wonderful! And for those
who have been on this list for over 2 years and have not mailed out any
cards, well get busy!

Please excuse this note--it is just a test to see if I can post to the Baren
forum. The last time I tried responding to a note, my response disappeared
in cyberspace. Probably that is just as well, but we are all supposed to
pipe up ocassionally.

I do tend to "keep track" of the cards I receive and don't receive,
not because that is my intent, or because I count the cards I get,
but because of my method of taking care of the ones I get. I enjoy
looking at them, and also showing them to friends and family, who are
always appreciative and impressed and truly amazed at the huge
variety and creativity. I put them in albums in archival clear
acetate sleeves. When I print the mailing labels for sending out my
cards, I always print a second set. When I get a card, I put it in
the album and stick the artist's extra label on the sleeve beside the
card. That way I or anyone else will know who made the card (some
people don't sign them), and we can ooh and aah over them. So I
always have some left over labels for the cards I haven't received.
If I have a lot of left over labels, then there are a lot that I
haven't received. But, as everyone says, who cares about late! It
really is nice to get surprise cards throughout the year.

Shireen

Kudos to Sharri and all those exchange coordinators who keep their
participants on schedule and to all the Baren members who burn the midnight oil to
make sure they stay within the deadline. It isn't always easy.

I appreciate getting my exchanges on time and love the most recent
Alphabet.(By the way my quote was from Hamlet, not "Harriet")

2 cents:
We are a wonderful warm and fuzzy group. Let's keep up our reputation for
respecting the deadline. Emergencies do occur; things happen. When there is
such a situation, wouldn't it be best to pull out and let the next person on
the list move up?

As always
Carol L.
