Thanks Barbara for the tips on printing relief w/solarplate by hand, I'll
have to try that sometime.
fyi, I have also recently gotten info that Hahnemuhle 180 or 255 g cotton
paper is good for printing akua kolor monoprints by hand using a roller, so
perhaps this paper would work for solarplate by hand.
happy printing!

Alec,
I really enjoyed your lottery series. You have captured a lot of Mexican
culture in your work I have to admit that since I spend half my year in the
Baja I am envious that you have done such a fine job catching glimpses of
Mexican culture. Your carving style says woodcut and your work is very
consistent and interesting.
Are you a native of Mexico or have you just been here and working for some
years?? I too am interested in the wood you use. Here in Baja we have so
much desert and are still a frontier and it is hard to find wood or any
supplies for that matter. I would also be interested in knowing what ink
you used and what papers?? Did you get supplies in Mexico?? Could those
supplies be sent from mainland to Baja???
Welcome to the Baren Forum and please do keep sharing your work.

Welcome Alec Dempster to Baren!!
I enjoyed all your woodblock prints and was able to read most of the poems
that went with them (without my Spanish dictionary!) I think some of the
words are only used in Mexico.
Good luck on the exciting book project.
Now we have 2 publishing printers. Congratulations to you and Maria. Are
there more out there?

The last time I printed relief solar plate we thickened Akua Color
monotype inks with the modifier and thickened them a bit more than you
would if you were working lino or wood. We rolled it on and printed it
with a ball bearing baren and it worked very well. The paper was Rives
lightweight and, for the life of me, I can't recall if it was dampened
or not. I want to think it was, so perhaps we sprayed it with a fine
mist just before printing. And, probably we used a sheet of parchment
baking paper between the print paper and the baren.
Cheers ~

Alec,
I also enjoyed the Loteria series, excellent. I second Julio's request for sharing some more info about the woodcuts, I'm especially interested in their size and the wood used.
Thank you,
Tibi
Hello Alec,
The site is excellent, and the Loteria concept fascinating. The series
would make a book worth having. I hope you someday exhibit on this side
of The Pond!
all the best,
David H
