I've been meaning to write and congratulate
everyone on the shows they have coming up.
I hope to have a moment soon to look at the web sites
you all put on the writings. Best Wishes!
And, thanks so much for the wood suggestions. I was wondering
where to get such great wood at a small expense.
I use linoleum most of the time - because I can carve it with ease
and it's inexpensive. I will venture into some great woods now!
Thanks again,
Jennifer

Hi,
Thankyou to everyone for the comments so far about wood/ply choices. It's so useful to hear about other people's techniques and methods.
I think there are a couple of small independant cabinet makers in the area, and builders, so thanks Wanda and Matthew, I'll give them a call and see if they can help out.
Hello Matthew, I'm a complete novice too.
This is going to sound like a ridiculous question, but how do you pronounce BASSWOOD? I've heard bAss (as in hAt) and bAss (as in Ace). Which, if any is correct?
My cutting is improving. I had a look back at my first practice pieces, covered in quite thick wavey lines and cut into them again and turned them from solid shapes into outline shapes. I was quite pleased. I'm starting on my first project, a little print to mount as a Christmas card for my immediate family, probably a print run of about 12. I've done the design, and separated the colours onto 4 tiny blocks of Shina ply (traced onto the blocks with carbon paper.) I hope to start cutting this weekend. If it works I'll let you all have a look!
Kindest regards,
Mark.
Mark,
I believe that in Europe, Basswood is called Linden and is readily
available at hardwood suppliers. I would definitely recommend that you
begin with that. Jebah
Just like the fish; not like the singer. At least up here in the Canuck nation -)
Great carving wood. Don't know how much printing it will tolerate.

Will Matt Kinzel please get in touch with me.
I am a Kinzelberg and wonder if you are a long lost woodblock print
relative. A cousin Matt Kinzelberg lives in L.A.

aka GREBLEZNIK (maiden name backwards)
Which may bring up the question of why do artwork under different names.
(Sorry the e-mail address of Matt did not open and I couldn't send this
privately)
