Just as a p.s. to the discussion on rice paste, another alternative to the
cooking of rice paste is to use methyl cellulose. It accomplishes the same
purpose and you just mix the powder with water and that's it. It's available
at Talas
_www.talasonline.com_ (http://www.talasonline.com)
and they even have a page with mixing directions on their website. You can
also purchase it at other bookbinding or papermaking supply-type places.

best wishes

What a lovely reception and wonderful place for an exhibit. I put the slide
show on and felt like I was there. Thank you for sharing and
congratulations Lynita. Bea

Hi,
My name is Mark Mason, I'm from a small rural town in Lancashire, England. I'm a traditional Animator by trade, but over the last few months have become increasingly fascinated by woodblock printing after my first attempts at oil painting ended up looking strangely Japanese. Also after reading Van Gogh letters over the summer and seeing the influence of Japanese prints on his and the Impressionists work. I've found the Baren site an invaluable oasis of information. I just wanted to make my first post and say hello to all of you.
At the moment I'm doing a lot of reading, and lots of carving (which I really enjoy), but no serious printing as yet.
I'll probably be asking a lot of questions, I hope you don't mind. I time I'd like to get involved with your print exchanges, when I've had a bit/lot more practice.

My animation website is at www.markmasonanimation.co.uk which gives you an idea of what I do, but as yet I don't know what direction my woodblock prints will go in, but ultimately I'd like to produce small hand bound books of black and white and colour prints. My woodblock inspirations are Hokusai's sketchbooks (people and animals especially), Utamaro, Hiroshige, Hasui, Hiroshi Yoshida, Escher and Kyosai's animals.
