Hello All -
I recall warnings sent out about scams re purchasing of artworks but
don't remember the details -I think I've
just received one (a pity because they've chosen large expensive
paintings - suspicious in itself ) The letter
says it's for their Cape Town apartment and that they would cover
the shipping and would pay me with a
Certifed U.S. Cashier Check.
Is this what other people have been receiving? (I have made sales
through my site and somehow the other requests
have sounded more personal)
any comments?
thanks,
Louise Cass

How discouraging. Unfortunately, Louise, it's got all the red flags of a scam. If you wish to respond, you might want to tell them you only accept payment through www.PayPal.com and that you handle all shipping.
If they are legit you will hear back; if a scam, you will never hear another word.

Probably a scam but you don't have to be nasty to them. Just reply to them
in a short email and BE SURE TO CC YOUR "LEGAL DEPARTMENT":

CC: legal@lcassart.com; gallery@lcassart.com
Thank you so much for your interest in my paintings.
Should you want to proceed with your order please be advised I only accept
US Bank of America Certified Cashier's Checks.
Your total is $11,700 including shipping. Please be sure to specify the
paintings you are ordering. Printing the web page showing the specific
painting(s) is often the best way to do that.
I will eagerly await your order. Please send to the following address:
2345 street
City ST 12345
Thank you again,
Louise Cass

Let's say you hear from them again, which is doubtful, and you actually get
the Cashier's Check. Take it to Bank of America (or whatever bank of your
choice you picked in the email) and have the manager authenticate the
Cashier's Check. Do NOT deposit it because often the funds will be credited
to your account and then (as much as a month later) the check will be found
to be fraudulent.
I guarantee they will disappear once they receive the email with the cc:
legal@ address.
Good luck,
Maria

I got 2 of them in the same day for different pieces. Beware!
Rob
I had something I think was a scam. They wanted to know if certain entries
in my blog were for sale and wanted invoices, etc. But the pieces were
oddly chosen (two versions of the same thing?) and they were small, not
suitable for a livingroom wall, as the e-mail suggested. Also the grammar
was less than sterling. The location was supposed to be Texas or some
southern state. It just didn't wring true, or professional. So I ignored
it.
Too many hoops to jump thru. I'm lazy by nature. ;-]

Have not received any posts for 2 weeks. I resubscribed again with my new e mail but still did not get any messages???????
My new e mail is;

Hi Jeanne,
Your message came through to Baren just fine. That means you are on
the subscriber's list. We have been having increasing problems with
some ISPs deciding that any and all mail coming from
is spam. Therefore these ISPs have put
blocks on all mail from those servers. With the folks on AOL we have
had them subscribe to the digest & select "text" or "html" form. Those
go through a server in the USA, therefore no longer have the dreaded
'asahi-net' designation. Perhaps comcast has followed suit.
First thing I would do is call the service desk at Comcast. Second
thing is to check your junk mail folders, on-line or in your computer.
Sometimes baren winds up there!
Another solution is to subscribe through a "shell" account - get an
e-mail address with Yahoo, Google, Hotmail etc. For after5 - you will
have to get one of those addresses as it comes directly from the server
in Japan and is not archived, so you can't go to the web & catch up.
I hope this helps you and anyone else who is having mail problems!

Thank you Myron. The program you suggested, Irfan View is something I can
handle--easy, quick, no CD-ROM and it is GOOD!!
Resizes proportionally in inches from my file. Many of us Bareners need to
use that. I'm playing with it and will work on getting a new image from my
Scanner into Ifran View, but for now, that's enough.

Helloooo Elizabeth Humphreys - I have sent a message to you, but it has
come back to me. Please write to me at Barebonesart#comcast.net. In
case some others have missed the conversation, we have discussed image
orientation and voted to go with vertical alignment. Also, we
(somewhat) agreed to orient the image slightly off center in order to
allow for book binding for those who may wish to do so. And, there is
a reminder to order a storage case from the mall, if you want one.
I think I have now announced to everyone what is going on in the
hallowed territory of Exch. 31.
Congratulations to Carol and Harry! Isn't it nice to get those
strokes? I had some myself recently. I just heard that SW WA Medical
Center purchased one of my found wood hanga woodcuts for their new
building.
Cheers to all ~
