Congrats Harry and Bea on your shows!
sorry I won't be able to attend. Maybe you have
a website where we can see the work you mention?
Have Fun!

Thank you , Marilyn and Charles for responses to the Scanner problem and
resizing images proportionally in inches, for our woodblock print sizes. Now
I realize what an easy wonderful program I had inside the now defunct HP
3300C scanjet. It was my right hand, no my left hand. By the way HP was recently
very difficult to deal with on the phone.
Marilyn, I'll get into Pcworld.com

I've heard several times that some scanner programs aren't compatible with
Windows xp. I have xp.

The Canon people are very nice, patient, and try to be helpful on the phone
and on e-mails . I'm in touch with them now on e-mail about what should be
fundamental in a scanner program. The ArcSoft5.5 program deals with pixels
and cms, not inches.. I am ready to pack it up and return if I can't solve
what should be easy.
I'll celebrate when...

Hi Carol,

Have you tried the freeware image editor called "The Gimp"? While the
name may suggest all sorts of things, the program is pretty solid. I use
it on Linux machines where Photoshop isn't available, but there's a
Windows version as well. As far as I recall it can work in inches.

Here's a link:

http://gimp-win.sourceforge.net/stable.html

(You'll need to download and install the gtk files first, then the main
software.)

Must admit that I spend so much time swapping between file dimensions
between inches and cm that 1:2.54 is permanently in my calculator's
memory anyway, along with points per cm and other useful ratios. :-)

cheers,

David

Carol,

You should be able to change the linear dimension "cms" to inches ...
in most programs you just click on the given figure and a drop down
menu lets you change the dimension. In a pinch, you can change cms to
ins just by dividing cms by 2.54.

Cheers ..... Charles
