Viza and Bobbi:
As an ex-Print Alliance board member let me say this. The organization
is miraculously held together by one little person: Carol Pulin. You
would not believe the miracles this woman accomplishes in a single day.
There are other volunteers, but believe me, Carol does the majority of
the work. She has been ill, has lost her husband and soul mate, and
she cares for an aging mother in addition to running the alliance,
coordinating and publishing the Journal, and managing the traveling
exhibitions. So, if things don't always go out on time, please try to
be a little forgiving! And, just as important: if you live near
Peachtree City, GA and could possibly give her a hand, please let her
know - I'm sure she could use some help. Art used to help her with
everything, and now she is without him. It is vital for us all to
belong to the Alliance to keep it afloat. If we don't support it, we
soon won't have it, and that would be a shame. If we all support it,
maybe Carol will be able to hire someone to work with her! What a
winning concept!
Did you know that the Impressions Journal that the Alliance publishes
is the only critical publication on contemporary printmaking? That
alone makes it worth supporting the Print Alliance. It is always a
fascinating read!
Cheers!

Hi Sharri,
It helps a little to know the circumstances behind the delays in the journal.
However, as an artist who doesn't have a lot of extra money to spend
on memberships and the like, it's a bit disgruntling not to get what
you pay for.
The one copy of the journal that I did get was excellent....and I
believe I got a small original print with it, too.
I hope she's able to get some help with the Alliance....perhaps she
could find an art student, or journalism student, that would be
willing to help her?
Bobbi C.
Dear Friends.
I beg to differ regarding the "only" part about the Alliance's publications.
There are several publications available via other groups, several of which
are in California. Perhaps the word "critical" means something different to you
than to me?
This is not to disparage the Print Alliance. It's a pity that Carol has lost
her husband... and that volunteers are difficult to acquire. Women have ALWAYS
been the base of volunteer organizations, particularily those of cultural
interest. It is difficult nowadays to gather volunteers as most women, wealthy or
not, now work two jobs -- one in and one outside of the home. Since the NEA
has been eviservated, there are few alternatives. Do vote, friends, to follow
your h-art.
The California Society of Printmakers annually publishes "The CSP Journal",
which is devoted to the subject of printmaking on a broad scale. The upcoming
edition will focus on story telling at the international level, with Guest
Editor David Smith Harrison generously giving his writing skills and expertise. We
also publish a member oriented magazine, "The CSP News Brief". We have been
in existance for a long time and hope to celebrate our 100th anniversary in
less than a decade.

Sharri, do not give up hope. We all cheer the Alliance on.
