Hello Baren Members,
Not a lot is coming through for the last two days. From the look of
our news items it looks like the East Coast of America is all frozen in!
We are sweltering here in Perth at 33o and 35oC!! I think I will take
a trip to the middle!!
Gallery East in North Fremantle has just finished an exhibition
entitled "Bugs, birds and beasties" including woodblock prints by
Kyosai Kawanabe "One Hundred Turns of the Rosary", Yoshitoshi Taiso's
badger, Yamamuto Shoun's "New Years's Eve Foxfires" and many
others....all for sale and at reasonable prices too although I didn't
buy any this time.
These were accompanied by handmade materialistic moths and an array of
everyday items in Lost wax bronze castings.
The proprietors of Gallery East have these prints in their drawers that
they have previously purchased and resell. They are all usually in
fine condition and occasionally I have asked David or Janis if I can
have a look at one or two that have previously been on exhibition and
not sold. They are very obliging.
I did ask Janus if he or David attended my Exhibition of woodblocks in
October but Janis said that they hadn't and apologised.... David had
gone back to the UK and even this month he was back there as his mother
had died recently.
Well, not my loss, theirs, that they didn't come to the exhibition!!
If they ask I will take the opportunity of showing them some of a
second lot of prints that I have framed.
I only received a 6th of the amount of money for prints I sold at the
exhibition...40% commission and I did all the work!!!

Looks as though I will be in San Francisco on Friday the 17th -
Sunday the 19th.
Any Bareners who want to meet?

Here's a question. In carving hard maple (several blocks), a strange
set of raised places, ropey looking and sore, have appeared in my
palm just under the skin, almost as if the veins are swollen. Has
anyone experienced this? If so, what did you do for this, other than
put the project away for a while. This has to be finished as there
is a deadline. This is slowing things down.

Hello. I thought after reading the list for several months I thought
I should introduce myself. I've found the list very informative, and
I enjoy listening in on so many excellent and experienced
printmakers. I'm mostly a painter, but also create wood and linoleum
block prints in the traditional western fashion. I've been trying
Akua Intaglio inks, and I'm not really happy with them, so I'm
thinking about trying moku-hanga, and then I'll have lots of
questions for sure. Anyone know of a workshop or class in the Bay Area?

Yoooo hoooo!
Is anyone here? I miss you.
As my computer runs some what slow I have chosen not to do the Blog thing.
It does seem that everyone else has and Baren is now a ghost list. I know
I am not much of a contributor, but I really enjoy hearing what everyone
else is doing.
When the digest came today it looked more like a section of Cindy's list of
places to go for information. Do you think this has any impact on new
people who sign up?
Just my thoughts.

I am guilty of almost never posting because I write everything down in my
blog. Pictures are integral to what I have to say so blogging is perfect for
me.
But here is the gist of things. I had some down time artistically where I
just wasn't feeling it with my prints anymore. I stepped back and did some
experiments with some small blocks of wood. Does anybody else do this to
loosen up and try things? Some worked but most didn't. I took the winners
and used the idea behind them to start a series of full sized prints. Being
buried in snow yesterday meant that I had plenty of time to do some
printing. I am really happy with the result but want to do even more with
it. Until I burn out again and have to repeat the whole process.

Yoo Hoo! I am here every day.
I am not doing the blog thing.
Fnally I have found what my 3 names are for getting into the blog , but I
don't want to bother Julio again to find out where to go from there.
And what is an "Atom"? Maybe I have one and don't know. And what to do with
it?
I'm trying to get some prints done and it is v e r y slow work, but
satisfying. Remember what David said.
Soon I will be able to send the photos of the slide lecture I did last
Saturday. It was an ideal audience. I am soooo relieved--no more planning,
organizing. I have been asked to do it again for another group... Hmmm.

Hi Gayle, I'm no expert but that sounds like something to see a
physical therapist about,
hope it goes away!

Hi Sue,
I'm here. So nice to hear from you. In addition to the Forum, I read
the Blogs listed in the Baren Blog Manager post. I rarely comment
anymore to BarenForum only try to welcome newcomers and congratulate
those who have accomplishments and such. But now I hold my opinions for
those who are more experienced and have more energy than I do.
Bette.
