Marissa, it's hard to make this decision.
I don't think you'll be rejected!! We sometimes spend so much time trying
to figure out what to send, but it won't depend on elimination or inclusion
of one or the other.
There's no knowing what the committee or jury rationale is, if any.
That said, these are my choices:
Cells v1 (By all means , especially since it is sold already)
Swirls 4x4
Swirls v2
Swirls v4
Cityscape v1 (because it shows how you can work with other colors)
Good Luck.

We have the first dozen dog exchange prints up for viewing on the Baren
website.....if you have dial up the page may load slow until we can make
some minor adjustments...dsl or cable should be just fine. Names & city
are shown under the image. Let me know if you have any problem viewing the
page/images.
All image scans and uploads to Barenforum.org courtesy of Carole Baker in

April, the Philadelphia show sounded like such a good show when you first
posted about it a few days ago that I considered seeing if I could hop a
train from Massachusetts and do a day trip to Philly to be at the opening!
Unfortunately, I can only wish to be that spontaneous in my life, but please
accept my hearty congratulations.
And Dave. Since I can't even get myself to Philly, I definitely can't make
it to Tokyo, but wishing you great success as well.

Hi,
These are all very impressive and I like both the patterns and the choice
of colors. To me it's a toss up as to which to send in, they show the use
of the same overall technique so that probably should not be a deciding
factor.
Have you tried doing some of these in a different format ? like perhaps
5X10" or 5X15" ??? Also printing some of these smaller blocks together on
a larger sheet of paper (11X14" or 16X20") could open some new ideas....
good luck with Boston......Julio Rodriguez
[Baren] Daily DigestI liked Graham's video too, but I think I need to wear gloves when I am using laquer thinner. Even better than the video is his woodcut workshop where you can get some great respect for the carvers of British Columbia. They have trees everywhere, so I guess you'd expect to find some woodcutters there. When you travel by ferry through the islands, you will see logs floating in the water--I bet they are hell on boaters who don't know their location! Anyway, Graham Scholes is an expert woodcutter. Also I appreciated learning what level of grit to use.

I am inhaling the forum everyday, and as a newbie to wood block printing I
have two questions-
1. What is the use of a colophon when printing an edition. I never was
introduced to this while working for my MFA in printmaking. I understand how it
relates to books, but not to prints.
2. What are you using methyl cellulose for? I used it for chine collee, but
it seems that is not what people are talking about.
Thanks.
colophon is for a book and some times for a group project. In a book to
say what type, paper, and who did the illustrations or other info you want to
put there, and in a group project who is in it.
