HELLO EVERYONE!
So I ran a test print of my first hanga woodcut last night and this is what I have to say....
It was fantastic and terrible all at the same time!
The block registration went really great. The seven 5" x 6" cherry blocks I used were perfect in their shape and alignment.
The actually print was horrible. I mean seriously.. But what fun! Now I am going to go the long road of discovering which paper is the best for me and what color combinations to use along with which pigments.
I basically wanted to see if my cuts were deep enough and almost all were.
Last night I used pre-made pigments. I am going to shift to dry pigments now with a rice starch recipe from Barens.
I have checked all over the place for rice flour and I can not find it in any of our larger grocery store. Do I have to go to a health food store?
Can any of you point me in the right direction?
Thanks and happy printing.
Cheers, Rob.
The list is a bit quiet tonight, so I'll tell you about the
exhibit I visited this afternoon!
The Block Museum, on the beautiful lakefront campus of
Northwestern University, has a terrific print exhibition
(through December 11)! It is a gathering of prints of American
women printmakers, and it's worth the effort to make the trip to
see this exhibition! It is an extensive collection,
representing all forms of printmaking.
An added bonus is an exhibit of "Maybelle Stamper: Works on
Paper", with some drawings, but mostly her lovely jewels of
lithographs! Her work is new to me, but these little color
lithographs are sparkling and wonderful!
You'll want to check Block's website for their hours before you
leave. The Museum is closed Nov. 24-27---it's part of the
campus, which is closed for the Thanksgiving holiday.
Best wishes,
Sharen
