I really get a charge seeing the image being pulled fromthe plate.
Connie, Mindy I sooo understand! How did I get into printmaking when I said no to taking a class? It was seeing a print being pulled from the plate. I still am amazed at that moment, it is what makes me a printmaker. As for clothes, well when I do art I do not think about what I am wearing. I had on a favorite shirt the other day and got watercolor pigment on it, the husband gave me this lecture about how I had old clothes right there and for goodness sake where was my apron? Funny how I would have protected that shirt any other time but when I do art. What a beautiful day we have here, an art day for certain!

IMPORTANT!
Do I have to get out a whip and a chair? So far only two prints are in
house for the exchange 26. and the due date is nov. 1st. I understand some
think the due date is a suggestion I just hope they all get in here before the
new year.

Hello John,
Just to let you know ... I hope to finish my prints today or tomorrow. They
should be winging their way in your direction by the first of the week
(about October 24).
Cheers ........ Charles
My sister (Cate Fitt) finished printing her exchange edition today, and mine
should be finished monday. As soon as they are dry enough to mail they will
be heading out to you. They *will* be there by Nov. 1.

Mike is right to warn people to beware when buying prints off the internet, nonetheless I would encourage people to give it a try. With a little bit of care you can buy great prints at affordable prices and there is no better way to gain inspiration. On ebay there is a distinction between sellers who offer "Japanese prints" and those who sell "woodblock prints". I would advise steering clear of anything that does not specifically claim to be a woodblock print. It is not too difficult to guess that the nice clean prints by Utamaro, Hokusai and Hiroshige are re-issues, but they are still genuine. The best sellers will always state the era in which the print was made. Whenever you consider buying on ebay a quick read of the feedback profile of the seller will give you a good idea of the quality of the goods on offer. If you are still unsure I am sure that the Baren people will be only too happy to chip in with an opinion. Simply cut and paste the item address and we can all check it out. Of course none of us would dream of bidding up the price. Here is the URL of a framed Kawano print I am bidding on:

Buying a print in a frame is really skating on thin ice, but I am also interested in the construction of the original Japanese frames. These came with simple wooden battens that swivel to open the back of the frame and allow for a quick change of scene. It's all good fun.
