Hi,
I made a blog, if that is the right terminology. It doesn't sound right.
Thank you Julio for encouraging me to try it and handling this whole blog
system.
I was happy to see that the blog I made of Maria's Puzzle print in the NYC
exhibit was so positively responded to by Hugo and he bookmarked it..

Annie, your blog is informative and enjoyable. Thanks.

Now I want to tell you about a short story,The Invisible Collection by
Stefan Zweig. I found it when I was browsing in a book of stories selected by
S. Maugham., Teller of Tales, 1939. It is about woodblock prints.. Ended with
a quote "Collectors are happy creatures". I liked this story and I think you
will too, if you can find it.

Kewl site Carol. Takes a little long to upload tho -- you might consider having thumbnails that load quicker, so the viewer can get an overview of your work. 8-]

I loved Lefties Can Carve! Wish I'd been here to participate in that one!

Hi, Anyone who is getting e mail

I miss the Baren e mails. I am just not a blogger so I guess I am out of the loop.
We have become a forum of bloggers.
Maybe someday I will venture into unknown territory.
Until then, keep on printing,

Luv
Jeanne, still around

Nice to hear from you Carol.

Jeanne,
I don't think we have all become bloggers instead of posting here, but the blogs do allow you to put up an image and that is easier than putting it on the baren site. Not everyone has a website they can send someone to if they want to post an image so this is a good solution.
I think it has been a busy end of summer for all, I am just surfacing after a horribly busy time. Then I got sick...typical cycle, so have had a cold for a week. There is not good time to have a cold, it really slows you down. Most of the bareners seem to have been really busy too. I think posting on this list goes in cycles, just like anything. We get new members who want info and we answer, then it quiets down. I think we can do more talking about the exchanges and should. Especially if there are any problems we can help with.

I for one am struggling with the image I had in mind for #26...it worked so well in my mind. Somehow between the mind and the hand there is a gap and something is missing. It is ok, but not very exciting....I hate doing boring work. What happens is I find I have trouble making myself work on the blocks...so I am not going to start carving until I like the image a little better. Also I am collecting pictures of dogs for 2006 and not finding any that excite me either.....You know what I mean, suddenly you see something that gets your juices flowing artistically. It does not seem to be happening...maybe I need a trip to the library or to the local museums or maybe the pound....that might be a mistake as one could end up with a pet that way.

I got an email from Robert Genn about singing work.....I sometimes forget. Prints are not signed in the work but the margin traditionally...but I am thinking of getting a stamp. Since I am mounting my work on panels there seems no place to sign it except the back, a stamp would take care of that. It would be better than not signing work. There was quite a controversy about signing or not signing....why would one not want to sign their work????
Best to all,
Barbara

The book on Japanese Print-Making by Toshi Yoshida and Yuki Rei (1966)
for only $50......normally sells for $100 plus. This one has many markings

I may make myself a block with my "chop" to emboss my work. I think that's kinda kewl. What I do currently is carve my stylized initials in every block (they look like a couple of swirls for "e" and "s"). That way it would be consistent, but at the moment I'm perfectly happy to carve them each time.

Barbara,
I thought you had developed a new technique - singing work! That would be
great! I'd love to see/hear that - maybe incorporate it with book arts :)

Dear Bareners,

I like to listen to radio while I'm working, and sometimes I listen to old
programs online. Today I was poking around on the Studio 360 website (from
Public Radio International - WNYC) and found an interview from June '05 with
Art Guerra of Guerra Paint & Pigment. I've been using Guerra pigments and
really love them, so it was fun to hear the story of how he got into his
business.

You can listen to the interview with RealPlayer. Go to this page:
http://www.wnyc.org/studio360/show061805.html
and scroll down to the story called "Pigment Hunter."

And thanks for all your recommendations on the ball bearing baren. I'm
thoroughly convinced that I need one.

Jeanne, I don't think we have become a forum of bloggers - although we
do have some nice blogs to go & look at. People are just in a quiet
mode lately. So start up some interesting topic, o.k.?

Hi Wanda without a blog

I guess it has been quiet lately.
I belong to another group that has been pretty silent.
This should probably go on after five but I think we have suffered emotionally from Katrina and Rita.
They say that there have been a huge increase in people having to have medical attention because of depression.
I know in Florida everyone is sooo skittish everytime we see a storm in the Atlantic, keep thinking we are going to be the next ones.
The other two skirted us and downed a few trees and brought rain, but the storms were so devasting that I had a few images in my mind that just would not go away. Kept me from sleeping. Humans and animals!!!

Sorry to post this on the forum but my fingers did not stop.

Thanks for the e mail Wanda. It is nice to get in touch again.

Yes Shireen,

I love your site -- and especially the Go Players, as I'm puzzling out a
3-color reduction block at the moment. It was very helpful to see how you
combined the colors and textures.

Carol,

The book is a personal treasure of mine, and sits on a shelf above my
head as I sit here at my keyboard. And yes, it is the Zweig story that
had the most impact on me, obviously. It is one of the most terrifying
things I have ever read ... as of course, I could not help but
'identify' with the old blind print collector ...

Thank you for posting this note to remind us of the story ...

(I see actually, that the copyright on that story is not too far from
expiry ... perhaps if I can find some time, I'll get my scanner out ...
