I'll agree with Robin - I love this little carp! I am staunchly
anti-smoking so I will let mine swim through the water, though. LOL
Beautiful, as always, Dave.
A year or more ago I made the comment that the precision of Japanese
woodblock prints left me cold. Boy, did I get the gaff for that -
after a bit I think we managed to clear up what I meant from the way it
sounded. I'm still left shivering by the old imagery (note: I have
said OLD imagery), but I have developed a true appreciation for the
craftsmanship involved in this kind of printing and have managed to,
through Dave, become more familiar with the culture and more
understanding of my own response to it. There is a big difference, I
think, in making and printing your own images that come from deep
within, to working commercially, and having one designer, one carver,
and one printer. A case in point: I love April's bugs. And, I have
seen some other contemporary hanga printmakers whose work I am in love
with. But, fickle as I am, I have now fallen in love with a Carp.
Funny how we change as we grow, huh?
Well, I wonder what kind of fire storm this will cause and how much
time I will spend explaining myself! LOL
Cheers,
Sharri
I know my carp is coming.... and I look forward to it, but I have to crow
that the Doll Market finally showed up (the wayward #3 print mistakenly sent
by sea rather than air?)... How lovely, just as I knew it would be.
This has been a wonderful experience, receiving these little Bull jewels
from Japan. My mailman always looks at me quizzically because of packages
that come from the East, Middle East, and other exotic areas. Thank you,
all you wonderful printmakers, for making me the talk of my little town's
Post Office!

Thanks gang! Nice to hear that the prints are being appreciated. I
myself am having a great time with this years' series ... kinda tight
deadlines, but great to be getting so much stuff out the door to people
who enjoy it!
Dave
What i like about it i think the most is the sweeping curve of the
fish's back. Like a kimono sweepi`ng across the image. From here, i say
look for one with a major diagonal sweep to it, movement, a la art
nouveau...that is what captures me here- the sweeping movement, i keep
looking over to see if the fish is still there- seems like he must have
swum away long ago....and he did, but you seem to have caught him...
