I am not against the use of electricity or computers but I do object to the use of MDF in any creative pursuit (except in California).

Stick to the imported (as in foreign) European or Russian Birch plywood, try 9mm (international unit of measurement). There ain't no gaps in there.

The wonder of work created by Mike is that the images would not exist were it not for his creative use of mechanical processes. As has been said before, good work is about compositon, color, etc. Great work is about pushing beyond the limits we have set while still creating something that is well balanced. Let your minds and hearts create, use whatever tool you can to ease the way.

Why is that, Tom?

I was wondering the same thing - what has Medium Density Fiberboard
ever done to anyone? And why California?

Huh? What is the reason? Is MDF a Taliban product? Or Iranian? or ...........

I do believe that the controversy surrounding the use of MDF is based on its glues having urea-formadehyde resins which can, in high enough concentrations, be considered carcinogenic. I'm poking around in Google. In California, from what I can gather, it has been required since 1994 that products that contain MDF (or formadehyde, such as synthetic carpet or other type of material that might "outgas") must be labelled. What I understand is that if you're working with MDF and you happened to be making a lot of dust, you must wear a respirator and eye protection. Some people are more sensitive than others to the formadehyde, and not all MDF is the same.

Oops. I forgot the "l" in formaldehyde. And sheesh, maybe Tom K was being facetious. Now no snickering at me.
