Mike,
Thanks for this link!

I grew up living about 50 miles from Mount Rainier and saw it daily except for the Seattle fog...I don't seem to remember all these views....hummmmmmm.

I do remember as a teenager working in the summer at the Sea-Tac Airport and driving to work about 5 AM and seeing Mt Ranier bathed in red light from the rising sun, it looked like a giant strawberry ice cream cone. I live in the shadow of Mt Hood now, but I still miss Mt Ranier! It is a couple of thousand feet higher than Mt Hood so always covered in snow.

This summer I saw Mt Hood with almost no snow...truly a first for me. It looked very odd up close as nothing grows above the snow line under all that snow ...so it was just dirt and rocks. Looked a bit like you would expect the moon to look.. no vegetation of any kind. It was a shocking experience to see it so "baren". Maybe I can get a hiku out of that! Even in the summer there is usually snow to play in at Mt Hood, so it was really strange.
Best to all,
Barbara
