Harry,
There are a couple of printing methods that use this process, one is called white line printing or white line woodcut, there is some quite good info here:
http://www.barenforum.org/encyclopedia/entries/000_10/000_10.html
http://jvarnoso.com/exlibris/reva1.html
http://www.washingtonprintmakers.com/artists/pfaff/pfaff4.html
http://www.stararts.org/archives/arch2000.htm
Also a method called Chineese Printmaking, where the paper is attached in the same way as the Provincetown printmakers and each section carefully inked and printed, then the paper lifted and the next area printed. Two of our members use a method somewhat like this, Bea Gold and Ray Hudson. Either of them can give you more details, even though their results are quite different.
I do like Mike's name though, woodcut monotype. ala Karen Kunc...
In my travels looking for stuff for kids, I found this great website for Karen...
http://www.ops.org/wal/kuncweb/main.html if you are interested in her stuff.
Best to all,
Barbara
Harry - I've also done this (using wc printing inks) and have called it
'monoprint with woodcut' !!
I think there's an example on my website (one of the narrow horizontal
still life)
I like your landscape!
Happy Christmas & 'Joyeuses fêtes' to all!
Louise
Barbara - it appears that Harry didn't use 'white line' but made a relief
black line -sort of key block in reverse -don't you think?
Louise
Sorry - how careless of me -the monoprint or monotype (which is actually
correct?? with woodcut is not on my site - I cut 3 blocks for the one that
is- also did a large monoprint w.woodcut of the Norfolk coast which should
go up -by the way, I find I'm selling more prints than ptgs just now -
great for the status of printmaking but not good for the pocket!
Please excuse the 3 postings - I'll lay low now

Monoprint. There is a repeatable matrix plus a unique image (the color). I suppose you could also call it Woodblock monoprint.
Carolyn
Monkeys and roosters both flying in here..I have about 31 monkeys now and 3 roosters already!! They are fantastic, so many different concepts. Just like Christmas, only a week away. And by the way, Merry Christmas (however you celebrate the season), to everyone and a happy, healthy, productive and prosperous New Year.
Keri what is your address?
Nancy O.
Yes Carolyn! Good definition of monoprint!

Well, once a year maybe it's OK! OK?
Just finishing up the year's work here at the Seseragi Studio; the
website has now been updated with both the final print - winter - in
the current 'Beauties of Four Seasons' series ... _and_ the intro pages
for next year's project.
The 'winter' print is completely unlike anything I have ever made
before, and might be quite to many Baren members' taste, I suspect ...
I'd be interested in your comments!

Dave,
This may be shameless PR but the work is so beautiful as to be just amazing. I got the third beauty and think you have made a quantam leap here techincally. All of a suden 20 years of doing this work has paid off and what were wonderful prints are now glorious. I can not believe how amazing the third print in this series of beauties is...it just takes my breath away. Anyone seeing the real thing will just not believe it.
The internet does not begin to do it justice! And no one paid me for this shameless commercial...heheheh
I am thrilled to be getting these and cannot wait to get my "box" of small jewels...what a thrill to go to the mail box it will be this next year!
Best to all,
Barbara
