I recently spent two weeks as a resident at the Contemporary Artist Center in North Adams, Mass. The master printer, Brandon Graving, built a monster 5 x 10 foot hydraulic printing press with 800,000 lbs. of pressure. It is an amazing press to work on for large woodcuts because you pull beautiful prints and get a great emboss. It is also great for monotypes which I experimented with a little. Well I know most of you work with a baren instead of a press but if anyone is interested it's worth checking out the web page www.thecac.org , the press is available for the private sessions or workshops. Check it out.

portland, or
Andy, this press is certainly an interesting-looking object, before you even get to the functional aspect - I would love to draw it :)
Sorry that I know nothing about this type of press, but please keep us posted on what you decide to do....
best wishes

Not quite in the same 'class' as the last link I sent, but this story
on 'Couch Art' may perhaps be of interest to some [Baren] members:

Tried to access this link but Washington Post insists on registration -
does everyone have to do this or just from Canada??

Aha! I had forgotten about that ... Yes indeed, you will need to
register with them if you wish to access their on-line stories. If you
choose to register, a cookie will be stored on your machine, and you
will then be free to read any of their material.
Apologies ... it's been so long since I registered with them that I
forgot that step was even necessary ...

Registration of some kind for on-line newspapers is just about universal in
Canada as well as the U.S. Some papers charge a fee.

Mike Lyon's show in Kyoto opened yesterday (Monday), containing a
couple of dozen of the prints he has produced over the past year or so.
I'm sure he'll be posting a good selection of photos later for us to
see, but late last night I got an email from his cellphone letting me
know how the opening day went. Sounds like he had good TV coverage,
drew in quite a few people, and sold more than two dozen prints ...
Look forward to hearing his report!
