Greetings,
Nice Colonade print, Harry. You have interesting sidewalks. Remember DaVinci
got inspiration from cracks in walls.
Like you, I am interested in the possibilities of individual prints ( I have
a hanga up on that) and then do a series of Variants. We all have our
characteristic ways and I think it is good to be aware of them and follow our gut
feelings.
My husband once asked Robert Blackburn how he chose my print to go into a
NY Artists Equity exhibit : "Gut feeling"

I am waiting for one Leftie so I can send out the Lefties Can Print exchange.

Hi Harry

I know what you mean by sending to the Swap shop where you do not have to do "lots' of the same image.
I get tired of looking at my sameness in printmaking and have the yen to do something different with about every other print.
Anyway, took a look at your web page and really liked especially your Shoreham Bridge print. I always like the woodcuts when
they show something of the wood grain and your sky has the cloudy look with the wood grain as the effect of clouds, neat job.

Carol

Will we get to see the "LEFTIES" prints on the net.?

I am a "righty" but do all of my sports like throwing a ball, bowling, tennis, even sewing with my left hand.
Still do not know how I became right handed. Would love to see what you lefties did in your printing

Great Print, Harry. Nice and clean and wonderful color. Amazing how such a simple process can produce such results!

I find I am now on for #21, so need to get busy. 32 out of 50 is not bad......but maybe you are too harsh on yourself. Save the rest and look at them in a few weeks, I'll bet they improve in the drawer! I sure find that happens with my work. Distance helps a bit.
Best to all,
Barbara

First of all my #21 print is hardly an extravaganza. I just post often to
keep the coordinator aware that is is coming along. And work through
problems. But this is the first multi colored print I have done hanga
stlye, except for the reduction print in Baja. So any success at all is a
thrill! Please do not expect some grand marvel, just a print. And that is
not done yet, i was proofing it last week, so today is the big day. If I
make a mess i may be back to step one and doing some simple quick thing.
I thought about me and hanga and decided this was a print medium I needed to
learn. Number one i am a watercolor painter and color is one of my things.
(especially water media) Number two I seem to live in places where using a
press all the time is not easy. HANGA that is waterbased and does not need
a press is very portable. So I can take it everywhere, yes yes yes.
Harry as usual your print is wonderful. If we follow our instincts and trust
ourselves life puts us where we need to be.

Harry - hanga in there! I am also working on one of those Cliff
Hanga's - I just didn't know it. I am doing about 7 colors, and so far
have only 3 done. The prints are in the freezer until I can get back
to them.

Loved the potato print. I did sets of stationery with chairs and vases
cut from potatoes and printed with water color. They were really
rather attractive, but a massive amount of work - So, are you going to
print with cantaloupe and corn next?? (Have also used those in my food
printing class with kids -)

Cheers!

**HARRY,
You are an amazing man. I'm sitting here trying to figure out this
potato print. What stumps me is you used a letterpress to print it?
Is the name "Colonnade" a style of print or just the title of this
print? Potatoes can be very useful. I pierced my own ears at the age
of 15.5 and used a potato to back my earlobe. I got in trouble. Wasn't
suppose to get my ears pierced until 16, but I couldn't wait - I was
prepared to 'take the heat' for that one :) I think your Potato Hanga
has wonrdrous possibilities!
Website at: www.harryfrenchartworks.co.uk. I have faith in you to do
the surimono prints! Now put all that same energy that you used to
cheer for England's Football Championship and your prints will be
great :)

Would you guys like to see a Japanese chop/seal/hanko that I recently
carved? You can see the photos at:
http://photos.yahoo.com/b_oki_art
I carved it out of cherry. Its 3/4" square x approx. 3" long. I carved
both the positive and negative image. It was fun.

**LEFTIES:
For the lefties exchangers....remember....its "righty tighty, lefty
loosy" - gotta watch out for those lefties! Ha.

I'm trying to use this email to cover several subjects...
