While I appreciate the many diverse subject matters when the do pertain to Art. If they are too political then perhaps that is why we have an "After Five" forum. This allows us to talk about home, gardening, feelilngs or politics or anything else which we are , as a group of friends and printmakers might have an interest in sharing.
Politics has played an important role in Art and perhaps it should not be avoided but voiced on our other After Five Forum.

Printmaking, at least in the european tradition, has a history of political expression, i.e. the German Expressionists. If we deny that political expression, aren't we also denying an important part of printmaking history? Important art has always been controversial.

I agree in general with what Michael wrote about politics. Politics itself
would not be an appropriate subject for this forum. But in this case the
posting was about what has been happening to artists in the real world. As
artists, we don't live in a vacuum. We deal in the things that involve our
lives and the lives of others. Our work is about something - it's not just
craft; otherwise we would be in a different field. So, while we should not
get into political arguments, we should be aware of areas where art and
politics come together.

On a side note here, I want to tell you that in the early 80's Lise Drost was a resident at Oregon College of Arts and Crafts here in Portland OR and was my very first printmaking instructor. I learned a lot from her, she is a very good printmaker and has written a book on aluminum plate lithography. It is sure fun to find printmakers from your past, we are a small world as there are not that many of us. I still have the very first print I made in her 3-day workshop that seduced me into printmaking......it changed my life!
Best to all,
Barbara

Political statements get political arguments after 5 was meant for
political and or another statements not related to printmaking. One person's
point of view may not be another's view. What may appear to be logical to one
will not always be so logical to others?

Back from 10 days in the Aleutians and catching up on Baren news. There
are a few photos of the show I have going on at www.aleutians.org. Just
follow the leads. Almost all the pieces (about 150) were loaned by
local residents. There are a few photos, also, of grass basketry I've
done and one of the two assemblages made from old wood blocks. I think
the photographer was more interested in folks than prints; there's a
photo of one of the elders and his daughter. I went there in part to do
some audio recording of Aleut elders who lived in villages now
abandoned.
