Colleen,

The bookbinding book (I feel like I'm stuttering) is called Cover to
Cover by Shereen La Planz. It is very good for simple bindings with
excellent step by step instructions with illustrations. I imagine it
is available through Amazon or Powells.com. I'll see if I can scan the
page on the bamboo skewer book and send it to you privately.

As for the paper, I'm sure there are book people on the forum that can
give you much better advice then I, but the Japanese papers are very
tough and difficult to tear so I don't see any reason you couldn't use
one of them. I can't believe the torture I put some of these papers
through and they don't even wilt. They are tough customers and would
be very flexible and not as likely to break as the cotton rag papers.
Anyway, that is my take on it - hope that helps :-)

Cheers,
Sharri

Absolutely agreed. I'd trust (almost) any Japanese paper over most Western
papers.

You may also want to consider a guard book:

this design allows you to mount the prints onto thick paper.
