For anyone in the Lexington KY area, I have an exhibit, The Headwaters, at Wingspan
(191 Jefferson) of monoprints and digital inkjet prints. It is a collaboration with local writer Michelle Whitman.

Reception will be during Gallery Hop Feb 20, 2004 5-8 pm.

Thanks,
Mary Kuster

I want to congratulate Mary, Ruth and anyone else actively showing their work. It takes so much energy to mount an exhibition. The first time you do it you think it will kill you, but no, you just walk around like a zombie for a couple of days and then you are ok. The opening is so anticlimatic after making, framing and hanging the work. You are so glad to be done with the whole thing that sales are almost a surpsise! And any praise you get seems to be coming down a long tunnel....with an echo.

We work real hard to be artists...no one seems to notice except other artists. Still, we cannot think of anything else we would rather do....maybe a few less volunteer jobs. Wanda has me practicing in front of the mirror saying "no, I can't do that, I am already way too busy". I hope it is working! I am taking lessons from her, she has learned how to say NO.
Best to all,
Barbara

I hope you'll take a few minutes to browse Exchange 18 and 18(a) miniature
prints which are now showing in the Exchange Gallery! The printmakers
usually appreciate hearing from you if you'll use the pages to send your
feedback. A very interesting bunch of 58 prints!

1,000,000 thanks (or more) are due Gilda Machado-Zimmerling and Dan Dew,
the oh-so-incredibly competent and, if patience is a virtue,
oh-so-unbelievable virtuous coordinators of these exchanges.

John Center mailto:coordinator19@barenforum.org the coordinator of #19
(shunga / erotic), is trying hard to get the last prints in from a few
delinquent participants and has drafted some or all of the waiting list
into the exchange.

Darrell Madis has graciously agreed to coordinate Exchange #20 -- if you
signed up for this exchange, PLEASE review the deadlines and other exchange
requirements at
http://www.barenforum.org/exchange/exchange_20/exchange_20.html and if you
feel you won't be able to deliver your prints on time, then write
mailto:coordinator20@barenforum.org stating that you are dropping out
BEFORE April 1 to avoid penalty!

Thanks,

Hi!
I learned a lot with finally printing my first 5 blocks.
I'm getting ready to buy what I need to do this in my own space.
I will be using oil based ink and roller to start with.
My barren is a wooden doorknob.
I'm wanting to find paper that I can add watercolor/gouache to the back and have it bleed through to the front. There are a lot of papers out there, and I am
wondering (hoping) if I could find a short cut by asking for suggestions here.

I've been introduced to Mulberry paper as a good basic all purpose paper.

Does anyone have any experience with one of those ball bearing barens?
They sound interesting to me especially when the day comes that I start printing larger...but pricy enough to cause teeth gritting if in fact they are all wrong for me.
Somehow rubbing with a doorknob or a wooden spoon seems odd for larger work.
But hey...I'm just learning how....if that's best, then so be it....
I can be trained!

I think that's it for now....
thanks...Linda

Mulberry (Daniel Smith has a nice and inexpensive one in large sheets) is a
good choice for printing the way you describe with oily image and watery
Munakata-style colors from the back...

I have used a number of ball bearing barens... I think that the best one
for the best price right now is the Korokoro Baren at the bottom of
http://www.barenforum.org/mall/products/barens.php -- $126.70 -- GREAT tool
which will blow your doorknobs right out of the studio! Keep it lightly
oiled with WD-40 and it should last practically forever!

Linda,
I also print front and back - a paper called Hiromi W10 from New York Central
, W1 is even thinner. Thai tissue also. You can request up to 5 sample
swatches from their catalogue, nycentralart.com
And pattern tracing material,100% spunbonded polyester in a roll from a
fabric store or Stretch and Sew, Inc Eugene , Oregon

Just got a chance to view the Exchange 18 prints. A charming set of works. I also like the new thuimbnail page.
