Monkey nuts? Yes!!!!

Each of the monkeys have names, too...as I was doing one monkey a day
over a period of about a week..... that's 6 monkeys x 60 in the edition
= 360!! I had to do something with my little brain and so gave them
each an identity.... from right to left they are:
Clarry, Chips, Mo, Mini, Mort and Morrie, but you can all change their
names on their "adoption" papers if you wish!!

The little surprises I was a bit reluctant to add because of the
lethal powder stuff that came through the US post a couple of years ago
and didn't want to terrify anyone or get them all confiscated by
customs, so that is why the "surprises" are in paper!
Enjoy your Cheeky Chimps and happy new year to you all.

great! now i know what to expect preceding it. i'll continue waiting

To Ruth and Jan -

Love the monkeys and the cheeky chimps - also Emma's - so far I think the
monkey cards are looking even more dynamic than last year's sheep- I guess
it's only fitting - sheep are charming but generally rather bland animals -
hope to have mine (monkeys) released into the world next month.......

I'm sorry to hear that the calendars proved to be such a chore for Julio -
you are very dedicated and kind not to have given up on it - thanks in
anticipation of receiving them soon.

Julio, thanks for the upate on the calendars. I am in Baja and will not be
there too check for it, a friend will do that for me. So because I will not
be there in the states to receive it until the end of May or after put my
mailing on the bottom of your list. Just get that email to me that it is on
the way!

Since no one answered my question regarding the design and size needed for
the kentos I will wing it. But for those who have done reduction prints
hanga stlye a question?? These water soluable pigments seem transparent,
especially next to my oil pigments. So how do they react when one places
one color over another? I learned in reduction technique to start with the
lightest pigment and go to the darkest. But in watercolor if one overlays
say a red over a blue a violet tone might be the result. I would assume at
least a little of this will happen with hanga reduction style prints. And
yes I am crazy to try this as such a novice in the first place, but a good
challenge and 4-5 colors sound amazing.

Hi, Marilynn -- your ideas about transparency in hanga are absolutely
correct -- if you're curious, here's a detail from a recent print in which
three blocks were reduced -- a yellow block three times, a blue block four
times, a red block five
times... http://mlyon.com/images/2004_01_15_self_detail.jpg How many
individual colors can be produced (not considering gradations or variations
in color on any single block)?

1 blank paper
3 yellows
5 reds
15 red-yellows
4 blues
12 blue-yellows
20 blue-reds
60 blue-reds-yellows
===
120 different colors at most from the 12-reduction printings of the 3
blocks

But if I'd printed 12 different blocks (not reduction printed), then 4,096
different colors might be produced. The difference is that when reduction
printing, each subsequent printing necessarily overlays the previous
printings from that block -- a limitation which does not exist if separate
blocks are carved for each color (even though the colors printed are the
same)...

Interesting, eh?

Sorry for the double post today but my 18A exchange package just arrived
and they are just wonderful. Dan thank-you so much for all the hard work
and patience in coordinating this miniature exchange.

My print in the 18A exchange is tittled "Baren After Dark", after the
1960's Playboy TV show. After all the
late talk about Nude calendars, Shunga exchanges, pillow-books, etc.....I
felt that our 'Barenforum.org' has certainly taken on a certain 'risque'
flavor/direction.....I hope you enjoy the humour in my image.

Congratulations to all the participants...well done !

Hi Julio
Can hardly wait for the calendar. And thanks sooo much
for all the work that you did in getting it together!!
Glad to be back amongst my virtual (well, not
really)friends again. I will never "play" with my
computer again, when I do not know what I am doing.

Still trying to learn my new e mail system.
