Carole, I have a "rattler" and I like it fine, it's kind of a cool noise.
The ball bearing barens should be oiled with mineral oil. Vegetable oil will
gum it up. They are very handy since they don't need to be recovered.
However you need to be careful not to press too hard, the metal will squash
the paper if you press too hard (more difficult to do with a "true" baren).
Also, in case any of you are wondering what to do after Thanksgiving,
Friday, November 28, from 5:00 to 7:00 you are invited to the reception of
"Out of Nagasawa, Japanese-method Woodblock Prints from Around the World" at
55 Mercer Gallery, 55 Mercer Street, New York City, phone 212-226-8513. The
show runs from November 25 to December 29, regular gallery hours are Tuesday
to Saturday 10:00 am to 6:00 pm. The show includes hanga prints by myself,
Daniel Heyman, Karen Kunc, Marie Lessard, Nel Pak, Michael Reed, Hiroki
Satake , Jan Vermieran and Thongchai Yukantapornpong. All these folks
studied moku hanga at the Nagasawa program. Daniel Heyman organized a
fabulous show.
For those of you who have other things to do on your Thanksgiving holiday,
there will be an artists' discussion and reception Saturday, December 6 from
3:00 pm to 6:00 pm.
Hope to see you at one of these events!
Best,
April

It may be too late, but DO NOT OPEN anything from me that has an

the e-mail activates it. SORRY, SORRY, SORRY!
