He has already threatened to install one of those shock-alarm systems around the studio and fit me with a collar on weekends so I don't go in there. Last call for Baren-Suji items! I also received a calendar from the Women Made Gallery and found another of my prints. I looked to see if any baren members were in the calendar but didn't recognize any. http://www.ruthleaf.com ------------------------------ From: "Cate Pfeifer" Date: Mon, 25 Sep 2000 12:36:09 -0400 Subject: [Baren 11425] Re: Mike Lyon charset="iso-8859-1" I discovered the reason for this. I have a little program that tells you what the phase of the moon is - I changed the date a number of times to see future moon phases. I forgot to turn the date back. Sorry about the inconvenience. Cate P.S. If you want a really good moon phase calculator for the PC, try Moonrise by Mike Sidell. It has a free trial period and will not give the date changing problem that I just described. ------------------------------ From: Julio.Rodriguez@walgreens.com Date: Mon, 25 Sep 2000 13:16:37 -0500 Subject: [Baren 11426] First Annual Baren Calendar project......... A while back when discussing Baren exchanges a bunch of great ideas surfaced that caught many a barener's attention. While some of the other list-groups have taken up some of the proposed themes ( sacred tree, letters exchange, etc...) , one that is still out there for the taking/making is that of making a Baren calendar. Check this out to see what some of the folks over in Japan are putting out..... http://www.woodblock.com/encyclopedia/entries/017_05/017_05_frame.html There are many ways to go here. Twelve people each creating one print (edition of 13) to cover a month...or a larger group of participants where each person contributes 13 prints (one for the calendar going to the archives) and everyone gets a calendar....etc. Perhaps seasonal........? While David may be able to get us the "blank" calendars from Japan, those have the japanese holidays highlighted. Perhaps there's alternatives available here in the States. Is anyone familiar with a supplier here that would print blank calendars on printmaking paper ?.....or do we just attach our prints to regular calendar stock.....or can we print our own calendar form, highlighting all the important Baren dates ?..... Anyone ? Ideas ? There's lot of activity already going on with exchange #7 due on November 1st....and signup for exchange #8 just around the corner ( october 1st - non theme exchange, prints due february 1st )....also other lists have their own projects going....with bareners splitting time in several groups...........so a time-critical project such as a Baren calendar would necesitate a strong committment from the participants.....as we would want to have it ready for the newyear....perhaps such a project would be appealing to those of you not able to committ to a larger edition.....I for one would volunteer to organize and collate the project. So what do you think ? Anyone interested ? Ideas, discussion ? Speak up now or you will soon be heading to your nearest Hallmark dealer for some more of those same-old cutie-pie calendars.......uhmmm... Hey, what don't just everybody in Baren make their version of their birthday month in 13 prints? I think no month should be missing among the 200+ members of Baren... Although, who's going to collate that? Maybe it should be the year 2020 calendar... regards, Dimitris ------------------------------ From: Wanda Date: Mon, 25 Sep 2000 18:35:03 -0700 Subject: [Baren 11430] Re: First Annual Baren Calendar project......... I'm all for a calendar, Julio. Especially if we could keep it small - like 13 in each exchange. And maybe a quarterly calendar? 3 images x 13 =39 prints? How about mounting the print (removable) & the calendar pages on a backing of some sort - mat board, maybe? Or go for 2002 and make 31 of 12 images (yikes, that's 156 prints! No way!) Or divide up into smaller groups & do 2 prints of 12 months? Or we could group up into 2s & exchange directly. One fantastic calendar per person There must be a way to do this. My math is nearly nonexistent, so excuse the ramblings here. Just got another idea - print the image on nice thin (handmade) washi & then run that baby through the inkjet printer & print the calendar on it. If the paper size was standard, what difference would it make if the number part was in a different format than someone else's? Hey, I think I'll make some calendars for my friends. Maybe not 100 of them, though. Don't think I have 100 friends - well except for my baren friends. Maria of the "million" prints - sounds lots better than 1,000 prints! Go Maria, go!
