The PCA has been very supportive of my project. PA has three main aims 1. To provide an on-line resource for printmakers, papermakers and book artists, where they can easily find the information they need. 2. To promote printmaking and raise its profile as a contemporary artform 3. To raise the profile of Australian printmaking in the international community Discussion Group http://www.acay.com.au/~severn/discuss.htm PA has a mailing list or on-line discussion group. As I write there are approximately seventy people on the list. The membership includes professional and amateur printmakers and has both domestic and international content. Through the list, members can engage in dialogue about their work and share image files to illustrate the discussion. Exhibitions can be advertised or help sought concerning suppliers of materials or with technical information. Dialogue also embraces the changing nature of printmaking and the impact of new technologies. The aim of the forum is to create a community or fellowship of printmakers. Catalogue http://www.acay.com.au/~severn/PrintAus.htm The catalogue is an extended link listing of internet sites of interest to printmakers. There are sections for bookmaking and papermaking information too. This list is constantly growing as more information comes to light. There are links to useful sites for arts organisations (such as NAVA, Australia Council), sites useful for professional practice (Arts Law, copyright, marketing etc), prizes, galleries and print collections, suppliers of materials, and most importantly, new non-toxic methods. There is a growing list for Australian Printmaker's websites, for indigenous arts and for non-aussie printmakers where you can see prints from all over the world. Each site is reviewed for suitability before inclusion. I am interested in obtaining any information you might be able to supply about printmaker's websites. Please contact me if you would like me to add your site. Impressions Website This is stage two of Print Australia and is still relatively new. http://www.acay.com.au/~severn/Impress.htm Individual components of Impressions include The Print Exchanges PA is just winding up its first print exchange. A print exchange occurs when a group of printmakers each print an edition and mail it in to a central co-ordinator. The co-ordinator compiles the prints and return a set of one print from each edition to each printmaker. Besides the pleasure of owning the set of prints the other benefit is the way that joining an exchange can raise your profile as a printmaker. An earlier exchange this year resulted in the prints being exhibited overseas in two seperate exhibitions. The PA exchanges will be exhibited on-line in the Impressions Gallery and there are plans to show the PA exchange collections at a later date. We are currently accepting subscriptions to new print exchanges. In one of them, we have started what we hope will be an annual tradition, an exchange between Australian printmakers of a sample of their current work. The exchange is hoped to lessen the distance between the printmakers and to encourage the exchange of ideas. It is also hoped that the resulting print collections will be an anthology of Contemporary Australain Printmaking. This exchange is called the Australian Open in this, its inaugural year. So far we have ten Australian printmakers from four states participating and we seek another twenty or so. We are encouraging participation by indigenous printmakers. You are invited to join by filling in the form on the website. For complete information on all the exchanges see http://www.acay.com.au/~severn/exchange.html The Magazine The idea behind the magazine is that it provides an on-line venue for reviews and articles. Content is dependent on contributions from members. We recently were able to review an exhibition by the Warringah Printmakers and we look forward to hearing about your exhibiting practice. To be included in the magazine please contact me to discuss your proposal. http://www.acay.com.au/~severn/impmag.htm The Gallery The Impressions Gallery was inspired by my discovery of how few printmakers had work on the net. It provides an opportunity to have a show on-line. The first show currently going up is the collection of prints from the first print exchange. You can book a single 'guest' spot in the gallery or arrange to put a complete show on-line. You will need to supply scanned images and text via e-mail. If you would like to book the gallery for a show please contact me about how you can do this. http://www.acay.com.au/~severn/impgall.htm ************************* If you'd like to know more about me and my own art practice, see the Studio Dalwood section of the website. http://www.acay.com.au/~severn/studio.htm ************************* PA is privately funded as a service to Australian printmaking. Your participation, not your money, is sought. Please join us, its free. I look forward to hearing from you. I use it and like it quite well. It's less intuitive to use, and so requires more learning, but does a lot.
