Baren Digest Friday, 1 September 2000 Volume 12 : Number 1131 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- From: Gayle Wohlken Date: Thu, 31 Aug 2000 10:58:01 -0400 Subject: [Baren 11165] Re: Baren Digest V12 #1130 Jim and I just returned from a trip east and our delight was Philadelphia (visiting not only the Mutter Museum, James Mundie's inspiration for some of his drawings for his Prodigies Exhibit which has just closed at the Woodmere Art Museum, but also seeing James' wonderful show itself, as well as spending an afternoon with him and his wife Kate (who gave us a jar of manna (herbed, roasted red peppers) as a result of of one of her many skills as artist, gardener and gourmet cook. (Was that an understandable sentence?) I want to mention that James' drawings, pen and ink, look like fine etchings--beautiful, sensitive, imaginative renderings. Such a handsome show--when I walked in, my mouth fell open! I could not believe how anyone could do such tiny marks with a pen, such careful observant drawings they are like paintings in black and white. This morning while cleaning out my in box of 900 e-mails I found the posting that said I would let you know how to hold down the first twisted tail of the sheath while forming the other side. The next time I replace the sheath I will take pictures. It is also very common for people to take issue on small points in an article. We have a saying, "Just spell my name right," which means any publicity is good publicity. Even a bad art review will get the person's name out there in the public eye and they become a public figure in a small way. It gets people interested in the person and their art work. Obviously Dave is a professional printmaker, not a professional publicist or writer. I just glanced over the article and thought that I had received much more information from Graham's web site, but Dave's article did not make me think any less of your hospitality. It was great of you to entertain the Bulls for free that week, especially as you are in business to make money, not to do things for free. We are all appreciative of Graham's efforts to promote the ancient art of Japanese woodblock printmaking, as well as our luck in having Dave Bull share his hard-earned expertise with us. Sincerely, Jean Eger Womack ------------------------------ From: ArtfulCarol@aol.com Date: Thu, 31 Aug 2000 13:12:21 EDT Subject: [Baren 11170] Re: Copyright Infringement Hi, Have you thought about copyright infringement of your works? I ask this because my art was involved in a Federal case. If you cannot download the letter about it you can find it in Artists Magazine, Letter from the Editor, Mike Ward, Nov. 94 Please let me know your thoughts on this. Thank you. I'm taking over the job from Wanda Robertson who has done such an excellent job. She modestly claims that it became just another morning chore like her usual horse feedings and sheep shearings. I'd like to speak for Baren and her livestock by saying: "Baa, Neigh, Thanks, Wanda!" - --- I plan to continue archiving until the New Year. After that point, I hope that a new volunteer will rise to the occasion and carry the mantle of archiver (what is a mantle anyhow?). Anyway, the only thing I need to start going is Baren digest vol 12 Baren #1114 that went out 8/15. Can someone message me to say that they can forward it to me? Much appreciated. - -John PS: The forum archive page can always be seen: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ AMOSS ILLUSTRATION, INC. I'm planning a book of sorts and will be moving in with John Ryrie to pick up all the pointers on fine printing and book-making (oops, didn't I mention this, John?) Enjoy and apologies if you are on all three lists. I'm leaving for Zion now, no more chatty chatty for 4 days. Hey, you! don't look _that_ relieved...
