Print Title: Hidden Heliconia
Paper Dimension: 10\" x 7.5\"
Image Dimension: 8\" x 5.5\"
Block: Shina
Pigment or Ink: Daniel Smith Relief Oil
Paper: Natural mulberry (50% recycled/50% kozo)
Edition: 35
Comments: In the Puerto Rican rainforest the dense greens will occasionally reveal a bright yellow-orange heliconia, a sort of beacon of brightness on the forest floor. This print was pulled using a press since the textured mulberry doesn\'t hold up well when burnishing with a baren.

Print Title: Tulip
Paper Dimension: 7.5 x 10
Image Dimension: 6.5 x 9
Block: Magnolia surface on plywood
Pigment or Ink: Guerra Pigments
Paper: Domestic Etching
Edition: 75
Comments: I have been intrigued with contemporary photographs of flowers shot against black backgrounds, and thought that the idea of a brilliant red flower against a dark, pitch black background would be an interesting woodblock print to make. It took 18 impressions on the print to capture just some of the shading and texture that you would see on a tulip in real life. I can only hope that you enjoy looking at this print as much as I enjoyed printing it.

Paper Dimension: 10x7.5\"
Image Dimension: 10x7.5\"
Block: Shina Plywood
Pigment or Ink: Daniel Smith Watercolor and Faber Castel Pencil
Paper: Okawara
Edition: 40
Comments: 3 color woodcut in moku hanga style. Colors applied with wood blocks, the fourth and last color hand painted with colored pencil. I so appreciate the grace of dogwoods in bloom - gem-like the flowers dot the tree, looking at you. Colors give me great joy, and I moved my color choices during the printing process. And endlessly wondrous and miraculous journey through variations and new combinations. This was a beautiful printing process for me.
Moku hanga never disappoints in its challenges and difficulties and yet always rewards in its economical, beautiful, no-machine process.
Much to learn yet, and already so much enjoyed it.

Comments: Based loosely on a Baluch woven Kilim/Cover this zigzag motif was a moku hanga print/study in overlapping transparent colors.
Hansa Yellow, Naphthol Red M, Pthalo Blue Pigments on the first three blocks overlap to make the subsequent Orange, Purple, Green and brown stripes.
The last block, again blue, just to reinforce the blue zigzag and to give some outlining to the shapes.
(The sumi added in the last impression to the 4th block.

Made ink from pigment and burnt plate oil a while back. Loosened up with a dab of gel medium from Graphic Chemical. The ink behaved so nicely. I\'m looking forward to making ink with other pigments. Most of the cutting was done with an x-acto blade and printed on a Dickerson Combo Press.

Paper Dimension: 10 x 7 1/2\"
Image Dimension: Aproximatly 8 x 6\"
Block: Linoleum & Collograph
Pigment or Ink: Charbonnel Aqua Wash
Paper: Thai Mulberry
Edition: 34
Comments: This was an image that grew as I moved along. I had an idea for printing several Collographs ontop of one another, all cats in different positions. I was not happy but I liked this feline shape. So I experimented with different colors and sizes of linoleum for the foundation. I placed the cat on top of the pink block. The print still needed something and so I added the collograph of garden of flowers. I am very happy with the image. I hope that you like it!

Comments: This print will be a reproduction of an 18th century Sumizuri-e print I found on line. I lost the site I got it from but will try to relocate it for the colophon. I am still new to woodblock so most of this is still experimentation for so I hope it turns out well. :)
