'Mendo Coast'

Artist's comments ...
The California coastline is both forbidding and inviting. North of San Francisco are high cliffs and jagged rocks jutting out into the water. It is not a friendly coast for ships. Also, the Pacific Ocean water is much colder than the East Coast. However, it is inviting because it is so beautiful--much more interesting to look at than the gentle Atlantic. "Mendo" means Mendocino, an artist colony about half way between San Francisco and the Oregon border.
