Artist's comments ...

I have loved that little dragon motif from the first time I ever saw a black and white version in a book. It is apparently from a lacquered bowl dating from the late Chou Dynasty. I was thinking of the solar eclipse during 2002, and the oriental notion that an eclipse is the result of dragons devouring the sun. I used two of the dragons in mirror image with a pretty simple graphic image of the sun between them. The simplicity and symmetry of the design really appealed to me.
