Sharpening (entry by David Bull)

There are a great many ways to make a woodblock print; over the course of hundreds of years, many artists and craftsmen have devised countless methods of getting an image from wood onto paper. Printing can be done with a baren, a press, a spoon ... The design can be drawn with a brush, a pencil ... The cutting can be done with knives, gravers, gouges ... But whatever methods are chosen, if it is a woodblock print, we are talking about cutting wood - for cutting wood, we are talking about sharp tools - and for sharp tools, we are talking about sharpening stones!
