I'd like to thank everyone who was on the ball and got their dragons out. They have been fun to have pop into my mailbox every now and then!
I have finally, 7 months late, gotten mine carved (7 blocks) and will get to printing it in the next couple weeks. I have one big one to finish first.
I see there is a list of almost 50 signed up. If there are any address changes (Andrew Stone), please let me know.
It might behoove me to start thinking about next years snake now, eh?

Hi David,

Since you're asking; the image is from the Kozan temple school and these are usually attributed to Kakuyu (Toba Soujou). However, since they're 12th C. no one really knows the artist for sure. Your version is carved from a beautifully 'silky' block, is it Yamazakura?

Cheers

Yes, this is one scene from the famous Chouju Giga set of scrolls,
depicting some of the animals wrestling together ...

And the wood is indeed yamazakura - that's all I ever use!

California Bareners,

I just saw an announcement for a four-session Moku Hanga workshop at Josephine Press in Santa Monica in August : http://www.josephinepress.com/workshops.html
It's taught by Joseph Vorgity -- never met him but I've always liked his work. I think of him as sort of a brother, since we both have studied with Matt Brown.

best,
Annie B
